What to use on Lexus paint..

Hey guys, this will be my first Lexus, an IS300, and it belongs to my  super picky  sister. It's in good shape with very little swirling. What do you guys recommend for a light polish and wax/sealant? I have a PC, B&D polisher and an 11" RO along with several of the Meguiars and 3M products.

Is it black? Light polish you could use #9 swirl mark remover followed by, well, people seem to like this new Wolfgang thing( polish and sealant). I like blackfire myself, but that's because I haven't bought any other products (moneys an issue you see). You could also use #9 followed up with Meguiars NXT if you just want to go to the store and buy something.

Edit: Detailer and the University are more geared towards this advice. Just FYI for the future. ;)

Lexus paint is just like any other paint, except it seems to be a little softer than average meaning two things, it scratches easier, and its easier to remove scratches.

I've been happy with NXT and Poorboys EX on several different Lexus colors (Black Garnet, Silver, Flint Mica).

Yes it is black. I just didn't want to make it any harder than it needs to be. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll prolly hit it with Meguiars swirl remover then glaze and polymer sealant.

We've got a Pearl White LS400,black LS430 and black SC430.I am very happy using 1Z Metallic Polish, followed by 1Z Glanz Wax and then Swissol Samurai.

They just gleam and seem to bead forever!

Aahh, the joys of Lexus 202 Black Onyx! How do I begin to describe the beauty that my 202 Black Lexus offers to the world.

I've also used everything from Meguiar's #7 to 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound. I've used everything from Meguiar's #26 to the latest fave...Wolfgang.

It always looks great afterward, using the proper techniques.

An application of a light polish by Meg's, 3M 1Z or Menzerna, followed by any quality sealant or wax discussed on Autopia will yield a beautiful finish.

Relax...enjoy. :xyxthumbs

I heard some lexus black is NOT clear coated. You may want to do a test section before doing the entire vehicle and adjust you polish combo accordingly.

What would need to be changed whether or not it was clearcoated? I treat my nonclear black lexus like any other clearcoated car.. no probs so far. :)

It's a 2002 IS300 and yes it does have a clearcoat. Would polishing with the 1Z and finishing with #26 be a problem?

I have a 2002 Silver LS430; nothing but Zaino Z-2 plus ZFX!

Check the Guru Wax Report (search Autopia past week).

The most important part of the detail is the prep. We all have our own favorites, and there are a lot of different opinions, but whatever you end up choosing to use, spend the time on preparing the surface. My preference is the detergent (Dawn) wash followed by a vinegar rinse, then claybar and wash with a "carwash" before applying anything else. Get the surface right first, then pick your wax, sealant, or whatever.

Anything stronger than a glaze will clean the paint better than all that washing. If you aren't using Zaino, no reason to bother washing with Dawn.

But if it works for you, go ahead. ;)

------------------------------------

After washing the car, run your hand over the paint to see if it needs claying. If the paint is glass smooth, proceed directly to polishing.

If there is very little swirling, I'd go with Meguiars #82 Swirl Free Polish. BTW, if the pad ends up black, no clear coat!

If you want to stick with Meguiars, follow with NXT, wait 24 hours and top with Meguiars #16 Pro Paste Wax.

Poorboy's Polish w/Carnauba and EX w/Carnauba or Professional Polish and EX-P look real good on black.

The Wolfgang twins are also excellent on black and when I detailed the below LX470 (non clearcoat), I got absolutely no color transfer with the sealant.

1z PP followed by MP, followed by the carnuba of your choice. If the swirls are very light, just the MP.

OK, if I do use the 1Z goodies, would I need to finish with the Glanz Wax? I'm ordering the 1Z GW and the Klasse twins today and the plan is to do the car next weekend.

I find that the Glanz Wax removes any residue left from the PP and MP.For me,it leaves a nice base for my favourite carnauba paste wax.

I've tried skipping the GW and going straight from MP to paste wax but keep coming back.

Please post a pic of the results along with your "procedure" and final choice of products. As well as your opinion of your results (and maybe your sister's also). We all like followup.

Hey now, with all the input from you guys here I would have NO choice but to post the results!!!

By chance, does anyone remember Harley wax?
