What to tell the dealer about brand new car?

We are getting a 05 Impreza RS, either this week or in a month depending on what the dealer can find and if we have to order it. I know I don't want the dealer to touch my paint at all so I guess my question is do I tell them to do NO prep work on the car or just no exterior work? I am not really sure what all the dealer does in their "prep" session.

Thanks

Have them put in writing ABSOLUTELY NO wash or prep work of any kind or you reserve the right to refuse delivery. Be firm about this if you have to. I didn't have to explain this much myself because my salesperson was familar with the hobby of detailing.

When the car arrives take all the time you wish to carefully inspect the finish. Hope all goes well.

When I order my new vehicle in about a year I am demanding no prep. Also, if it comes with white plastic wrap on it, I want that stuff on it too. Neighbors will think I'm crazy, but 24 hrs later, they will be blown away :)

Hey, pics are a must :D

Yeah, pics will be up for sure as soon as I get it. Part of me wants the car now and part of me wants to order it and get it in a month. Will give me some time to sell my car and not have to do the trade in thing.

If you want no prep work at all I would order it through the dealer from Subaru. Ordering from a different dealer would then mean the car has had some prep work done with removing of the plastic and washing the vehicle for the lot. Then some sleeze ball driver will be driving it and potentially creating stains on the interior, and if the dealer doesn't catch it when the car comes in it may have scratches and dents. This will all create hassles for you which are not needed. If you do order it from Subaru have them leave all plastic on it, (some removal may be required for a PDI, Pre-Delivery Inspection as it is unsafe to drive with plastic on some parts.) but overall it should be pretty well covered and you shoudlnt see much car, which is another step to be cautious with. When taking delivery make sure to peel off all plastic so you can inspect for scratches and dents. My .02 cents on taking delivery.

Why not just take normal delivery w/ a CLOSE inspection by yourself . Or even have them take off plastic but not do their wash n wax thing. I'm sure you 're skilled enough to take out any blemishes caused from delivery . That's part of the fun right? Making it look " better than new".
Just my .02 but driving home w/ the plastics still on might be alittle odd.

I plan to drive home with the plastic next time around :bigups The degree of the illness is so far gone something like that is more or less standard :D

I like detailing and all but it would not be "fun" for me to have to do a scratch and swirl removal on a car I just spent $17,000 on. LOL

Yep, when I bought my civic, I told them I wanted to watch it come off the transporter. I then proceeded to inspect it, finalize the transaction, and drive home proudly with the plastic on AND the front lip spoiler uninstalled. :)

Call it what you want, but I didn't have to worry about anyone touching my car. The dealership thought I was insane.

I have lived and learned on this one. At the time I didn't know any better to refuse dealer prep. Not only did I have keyhole scratches but scratches under the doorhandles. I also had scratches on the inside of the car that have cost me money in products trying to remove.

We bought an Envoy off the lot. I specified no prep. They just washed it and applied tire crap. There were some very nior marks from washing, but I didn't let it bother me. It is the wife's daily driver and perfect paint isn't a realistic goal.

I took out the minor stuff with my regular washing and waxing regimen. I just didn't feel the need to go overboard. :)

You tell them five words. DO NOT TOUCH MY PAINT!

I am sure many have seen the movie Stripes with Bill Murray and John Candy. If I could borrow the lines from Francis, The Psycho, in that classic flic.

"Any of you homos touch me, and I'll kill you. TOUCH MY STUFF, and I'll kill you." Touch my "Car"... you get the message.:rofl

Isn't that the truth! We are a different breed and dealers must be shaking their heads after we leave the lot.:wall It is always interesting to inspect what dealers think as quality used vehicles only to find paintwork, shoddy detailing, or lack thereof. I think many of us are unable to succumb to buying something used. It is difficult to find something that either meets our standards, or is able to be corrected to make it what we desire. A new car is really a walk in the park, but carries a price.

Just got off the phone with the dealer! Car will be in on Saturday but I won't be able to get out there until Monday night. The car is coming from another lot so I am sure it has already been detailed. I will look it over very good first. The color is light so any swirls wont show much and next weekend you can bet I will be spending an entire day going ovr it. :D

Excellent! Sounds like Christmas came a little late this year. In a week's time she will be better than new!

Thanks everyone! I will be sure to get some pics of it once I get it. The pics will probably come in a week or more when I can get out and get pics. My guess, with the current weather, is that the pics will be dirty and snowy. LOL Oh well, that is what they made AWD for I guess. ;)

The car won't come with the spoiler like I wanted but it will come with fog lights which I decided I wanted last night. I guess I can always find a spoiler and find someone to install it for me.
