What to do about pin stripes?

My friend got a car we want to polish. He got pinstriping. I can feel it with my nail so I think it is a decal of some sort. Do I have to polish by hand or is it ok with the PC.
 
They can be paint or a decal. More often than not bumping up against them won't hurt them. Having said that I wouldn't spend any time polishing them directly I have seen the decals lift. Go over them lightly by hand.

I pretty sure they are decal, I can feel it. But damn it is safe to go over by hand. That is good then, if I had the choice I would have taken them off.
