i've got uncoated aluminum rims, i don't want to stain them by using a harsh tire cleaner for my tires. any suggestions on what to use to detail my tires without staining my rims. i do have 3 coats of pb's ws on the rims. :help:

If you have 3 coats of WS on them then you really shouldn't have to do anything more than clean them with your regular car wash.

hi jay, thanks for your reply but it's not the wheel i want to clean it's the tire (rubber). i'm afraid if i spray tire cleaner on my tire the overspray will stain my rim. i'm looking for a tire cleaner to use and not have to worry about the overspray staining the rims.

I use some APC (Water 15:1 APC)and a little elbow grease with a brush and it cleans it real well and has it ready for dressing and it doesn't hurt the rim at all.

I am using a product called ONE TOUCH. I was worried at first too that overspray would be a problem, but I just wipe it off immediately and so far no staining

Like pockets said use some APC a nice stiff brush and your tires should look like new and don't forget the wheel wells APC does a great job there too:bigups

If you have BnB it has cleaners in it, so depending on how bad they are, BnB does pull a double duty.

yeah what he said ^^, and next time you are at a show, look for a thing called the wheel shield...it's a plastic cover to put over your wheels while you clean and/or dress tires..it's made for this type of situation:)

As far as I am concerned, B & B is a must on RWL tires!

After a good scrubbing with an APC, I like to apply some B & B and let it dry. Then, if I'm in the mood, I'll top it with a good tire gel, and then come back with some B & B on an applicator, and lightly go over the RWL's to clean them off even more.

Can you shave in those tires after all that?:)

Yes! :D

Seriously, while the B & B is a nice tire dressing on it's own, when dry, it makes a great foundation for a good tire gel.

The only thing about gels, if you apply them over the RWL's, they usually take some of the "POP" from them. Lightly going over the RWL"s with a little more B & B brings back the "POP". ;)

I have a product that I get locally like BnB and use it the same way

just one note to add....when wiping off the RWL use a clean cotton towel and try not to touch the black;)

Yep, the whole point is to just clean off any hazy residue left by the gel on the RWL's.

A clean applicator works fine for me.

i got real tired of buying two products for wheels/tires. eagle one wheel/tire cleaner or advanced auto wheel/tire cleaner. both safe. and it's great using one product! like to finish up with armor all detailer's advantage tire foam.

If you want to use one product for both, you could save yourself a LOT of money by purchasing a gallon of a good, safe APC and diluting it as recommended. Unless you have polished aluminum wheels, or some very special wheels, the APC will work just fine. I like Meguair's Detailers Brand APC. One gallon will make about 4 to 5 gallons of wheel/tire cleaner, and it is inexpensive. Plus, it can be use for other general purpose cleaning.

Save the heavy duty tire/wheel cleaner for times when the wheels get some tough caked-on brake dust.
