What steps when stripping with Alcohol?

I have tree sap all over my car (no more parking under trees for shade:( ). I wanted to redo my car anyway, so I'm going to strip it with 50/50 Isoprop. Alcohol and then polish and wax it.



Here are the steps and my questions:



  • QEW

    ??Dry??

    Wipe down with alcohol mix

    ??QEW & Dry??

    ??If not QEW'ing, Dry??

    SEPC

    s100



As you can see, the questions are:

  1. Do I need to dry the car between the QEW and Alcohol steps?
  2. Do I need to QEW between the alcohol and SEPC steps?
  3. If I don't need to QEW between the alcohol and SEPC, do I need to at least dry the car?

1. i would dry after QEW

2. i wouldnt really QEW after alcohol since your trying to strip everything for a clean start.

3. i would dry it after an alcohol spray down and start with the SEPC...
 
Unless you have a really tough sealant on there now and only plan to us a very mild polish, I don't think you'll need an alcohol wipe to get off the existing layer of wax. Whatever polish you use *should* strip off whatever you have on there already.



Have you gotten the sap off already? If clay doesn't get it, SEPC or even alcohol might not take it off. Might need a dedicated tar/insect remover.



I would:

1. Wash with QEW, drying each panel as you go

2. Clay (can use fresh QEW as lube) and dry each panel as you go

3. If sap still there, use tar/insect remover

4. Polish

5. Wax



Not saying you couldn't insert an alcohol wipe in there before the polish step, but doubt it will add anything.

Thanks Bill D, you caught me just going out the door! Now I'm going out with a printout of the "detailed" process in hand!:)
