What should I buy instead of Menzerna FMJ?

Hello All,

I have been using the Menzerna system (polishes, glaze, and FMJ) for the last 6 months and have been quite happy. In particular, I really like the slickness and gloss of the freshly applied FMJ. However, I find that it isn't quite as durable as I'd like. I always find myself reaching for my QD (been using Poorboys S&G and like it for the shine it gives) after I wash.

OTHER THAN ZAINO (I've heard enough about Zaino on all the boards), can you tell me something that provides a similar or greater level of slickness and gloss as FMJ, but with more longevity?

Again, my goal here is not to maximize durability, but to maximize shine and find the most durable high-shine product.

Also, if there is a QD that gives even more shine that S&G for a similar price I'd love to hear your opinion.

Thanks in advance!!

I think that Menzerna system you have is pretty hard to beat, if you're looking to stay with sealants instead of waxes. Menz's Final Touch Glaze is one of the most awesome products I've had the pleasure of using. A good sealant over the top, and wow... eye popping results.

I think you'll find equivalent products out there, but since you've eliminated Zaino (widely regarded as being the longest lasting), I really doubt you'll find anything substantially better.

Don't try UPP. I *love* it on the S8, but the slickness does drop off rather quickly after a wash or two. No biggie in my case as I simply reapply it, but it sounds like the same thing you're trying to get away from with the FMJ.

I kinda wonder if the slickness is simply not gonna last with products like this

I've been getting pissed @ FMJ lately also. I have 3 layers on my car and the slickness lasted about a week. You can't deny it looks great but I don't have time to re-apply every wash.

You can try some Aquawax after a wash, it goes well w/ the look of FMJ and is pretty slick as well. I also want to try Duragloss #105 it's said to stay slick for a month or more.

Your car is most likely still protected even with less slickness. But what I do is top my layer of FMJ with Opti Seal and you get even more depth and great longevity. If you want to try a different system, give JW a try. Great easy to use products that last a long time.

Yeah. I've used these types of products on easy-to-oxidize single stage and they kept protecting long after the slickness was gone. I still like the slickness though ;)

Me too, and nothing is as slick as FMJ that I have found...But if you top it with OS, you will have the protection for quite a while.

I use FMJ as well. I can pretty much do a car in about 20-30mins. (My impreza, Mo-in-Law Pr Cruiser). They look good. I try to do it every 2nd wash. I usually try to follow the FMJ with a quick detailer like FK 425 or some AW.

Zaino is hands down he longest lasting product I have tried. I usually do my wife's black honda Pilot with it and it goes for months....

Cheers

Nick

I should clarify my initial post -- I'm not ruling out Zaino. I just have heard nothing but good things and figured I'd see if there was another sealant that has gloss and longevity.

So at this point, I'm inclined to stick w/ my menzerna polishes and

a) keep using FMJ but top with Opti-seal or Zaino CS, and do periodic touch ups w/ aqua wax; or

b) move to Zaino Z2pro with Zaino CS.

That's the plan...unless you convince me otherwise!!

Thanks all.:thx

what about topping the FMJ with the HGAS after washes? how does that hold up? or would topping the FMJ with OS be a better option? any insight, i would like to know

My only concern about using HGAS is the price ($18 for 16 oz.). Plus, since it looks more like a detailer spray w/ sealant properties I think I'd have to use much more of it per use than Optiseal or Zaino CS (which ARE pricey but seem to go a long way, or at least longer).

OS and HGAS are very different products. I have both in my lineup and use both. But OS is a true LSP to me. HGAS is not.

Well, if you can wait a few weeks the new ULTIMA line seems promising, ecspecially if it lives up to the claims, "longest lasting sealant, longer than anything else", but at $70 bones, you gotta justify it for yourself.
