What products to stock up on

Well, I'm planning on opening my own mobile detailing service company within the next few months; I've got a lot to plan and get organized before I take any action.

I've been around the detailing obsession for almost two years now, so I know the general ropes. However, products scare me. I have some of everything, but now is the time for me to start finding out what works for you guys.

What are some products you put into use for your most extensive detail?

Why not use what has been working for you for the past two years? What products are you currently using, what brand for polishes?

why would products scare you and you plan on opening up a business???

and I agree with joshua - use what you like....just because someone else likes optimum over meguiars doesnt mean you can't get good results with meguiars....or menzerna, poorboys, chemical guys, etc

In the past I've used mothers polishes; but to be quite honest I'm sure there's some better stuff out there. It's never done any wrong for me, but I'm positive there's better stuff out there.

There was quite a hint of sarcasm there; it simply meant that there is so much on the market now from OTC to more enthusiast style companies.

Essentially, my weak points are interior detailing and polishes; the rest I've got covered.

What would you recommend for that?

optimum, menzerna, 3m, meguiars, are all good polish lines....some better than others...

like I said, find one that works best for you

You cannot go wrong with the optimum polishes. They are VERY user friendly and are quite affordable. You may want to check out Top of the Line Auto Detailing Supplies for some of the professional products. I recommend the Hi temp apc, and the tire dressing is also very nice. You will be able to find some nice products in bulk from there. For interior, I would look into low gloss/non greasy dressings. I use zaino, but for a mobile detailer, it might be to pricey. Optimum's interior dressing is matte and non greasy and may work for you. You could give David a call @ optimum, and he will most likely give you a deal when you buy gallons of the products. If money is not an option, browse the zaino line. I used to upsell it, but due to how great is looks, I use it all the time. :)

almost everything comes in larger sizes, just buy what you like and what you know. We all have out favorites so pick your fav. It works thus far then stick with it. sorry i cant help anymore, i could go on for hours.. these are just my opions

If you have the money available, stock up on dressing and multi purpose cleaner. Buy it by the 55 gallon drum if you can. It can definately pay/save to buy in bulk.

For example, here's my breakdown on prices for tire dressing:

1 Gallon = $15

5 Gallons = $50 ($10/gallon)

55 Gallon = $425 (~$8/gallon)

or if you dont have the production levels for a 55 gallon drum, definitely get the 5 if you plan on being in business for a while...gallons are much better than quarts, but you get 5 gallons for the price of 4 from meguiars, and their stuff is dilutable to like 4:1, so you are actually getting a lot more bang for your buck as far as megs cleaners go....

megs glass cleaner - its dilutable 10:1 so you are actually getting 11 gallons of product for 15 bucks...NOT BAD AT ALL!!!!

megs wheel brightener - dilute 4:1 gives you about 5 gallons of product for about 20 bucks...4 dollars a gallon and it will last you a long time depending on the production levels

now take those numbers and multiply by 5 and you get the idea of the cost per application of this stuff....

Thanks for the advice guys. See, this is why I'm in love with this site; the experienced guys aren't out to help screw over the new guys.

It's such a welcoming community! :bow

Before your posts I actually decided (and favorited) a lot of Meguiar's products; I'm planning on buying in bulk (Multiple gallons at a time) but not in 55 gallons! That's far too much for me. I simply don't have the clientel to do that just yet.
