What products to buy?

I have plans to get my car always looking awesome (black) and plan to help friends keep theirs as well especially one with a pearl white that is bad with spiderwebs.

What products can I start off with that will do the job? Can you guys give me links and prices? I am purchasing the 7336 already from Lowes.

So tell me what to get, like what #'s of meguires and where online to get all this stuff, or whatever other brands you guys think would work. I see a lot of the 2.5 stuff you guys mention as well.

If you're doing a whole job start to finish , wash the car with Dawn 1st to remove old wax & grease

Spiderwebs , you have to determine how deep they are to know what pad and what product to use .

2.5 is Poorboy's rubbing compound .

It's equivalents are 3m PERFECT-IT III RUBBING COMPOUND 05933 fine cut and Sonus Restore SFX-1 .

For lighter swirls , Poorboy's SSR 2 is good followed by PERFECT-IT III MACHINE GLAZE 05937 or Sonus Enhance SFX-2 .

Then next step would be Poorboy's SSR1 .

If a car only has light swirls , then Sonus Paintwork Cleanser or 3m IMPERIAL MACHINE GLAZE 05991 or PERFECT-IT III TRIZACT MACHINE GLAZE 05930 are equivalents . 3m also makes their own pad system , that works very well for buffing out .

After this stage the buffing is done and you can use PERFECT-IT III FINISHING GLAZE 05941

IMPERIAL HAND GLAZE 39007 or Sonus Final Finish SFX-3 .

Then a good pure sealer such as Poorboy's Ex-P (w/o carnuba ) or Klasse Sg applied with proper pad .

Use a blue pad for the sealer stage . Tufted foam would be nice

To make it easy for what pads to use - look at this chart to determine what exactly you need for what job .

The 3m glaze final and Sonus sfx-3 are for the final stage of polishing the paint . You would want to rewash the car with Dawn after letting the polish and /or glaze set up a few days - a week .

It's to condition the paint and make sure it's polished out to the fullest .

Since both products are silicone free , really you could go over the car with Klean or Alchohol/Water mix , but I just wash it off with Dawn after a few days before Klasse

Save the dawn for the dishes. Most polishes removes the necessary waxes left before so you can apply a nice coat of sealant or wax. There are many online retailer that can help you with your needs; properautocare.com, autopiacarcare.org, pakshak.com, autogeek.net. Which brands to buy is really a preference sort of thing as I can usually get similar results with most polishes. Remember it is the prep work (polishing) that gives you the 90% of the shine rather than the final wax.

As far as what you need:

1. Polishing Pad kit with a light cutting pad, polish pad, and finishing pad

2. A light to medium cut polish: Megiuars #83 or #2, Poorboy SSR2.5, Menzerma IP, 1z PP, 3M FCRC Optimal or Mothers Power polish with a cutting pad.

3. Final Polish: Menzerna FP, 1Z MP, Meguiars #82 #80 #9, 3M SMR, SSR1, Optimal or Mothers with polishing pad.

4. Glaze: this is optional: 3M Imperial glaze, Meguiars #7or #5, Menzerma FT

5. Sealant or Wax: #26, P21S, Wolfgang, Ziano, Klasse, Poorboy EX or EX-P or Natty.

Do a search to see what will work for you. FWIW I like Menzerma or 1Z because I have German cars, but I have used Meguiars with equal results. As far as glazes don't go through the trouble if you are gonna remove them to put on a sealant. What is the point of applying them then removing it. Sealant don't bond to glazes well so don't bother, but when used with a carnuba it really brings out black. Wolfgang is one of the deepest sealant you can use on black cars, but it does not last that long. Souvern is the deepest wax on black, but its expensive. I usually use P21S and Wolfgang.
