What pistol safe are you using?

Just wondering what pistol case you guys might be using. I want one that can be accessed fast. I'm looking at the finger print recognition ones but am always worried the battery might fail and leave me locked out. I for sure don't want a key one.

I was just looking at the GunVaults. I read online earlier that they do have a low battery warning though. If your battery does go dead how can you get into it?

I found a nice little 3 digit combination safe at my local gun shop this past weekend. I was really considering that thinking that if I hear something at 3 in the morning it might not be too hard to punch in 3 numbers from a dead sleep. Although the finger print safes would probably be easier as long as they work.

You ever have trouble with yours?

Are they actual finger print readers or you just use your fingers to pop in a code with the finger buttons? I can not access "weapons" sites from this pc so I'm watching Youtube vids on it. LOL

If it really does hit the fan when you're fast asleep, I'd bet my life (and that's no pun) that doing the 3 numbers will be a lot harder than you'd expect.

Seriously, motor skills like that disappear like magic under conditions where seconds count and your world is going crazy. Get something utterly idiot-proof.

The entry level safes have buttons under each finger location and is operated like a push button combination lock. the more expensive safes have a combination AND biometrics where it scans your finger print. I got mine many years ago before they had biometrics.

I am fairly certain that all their safes have key locks as well so you can still get in if the battery goes dead. As long as you find a safe place to store the key like a deposit box at your bank or even locked up in another safe you should be fine.

I have two kids so quick and easy access is pretty much out of the question for me. We have a dog that barks at the slightest sound so I count on her to make up for any lag it takes me to get the safe open :)

Doesn't she look menacing ;) Seriously though she hears everything and is a great watchdog. Just can't count on her to scare anyone away if they actually see her.

I use a GunVault for my bedside pistols. It has the finger push buttons. I find it very easy to access even from a dead sleep (I've had to access it a few times). It comes with a key just in case the power does go out to it. It has a battery backup in it also. I have no issues or worries about accessing it when I need to.

Just give adequate, proper thought to your situation and don't handicap yourself.

Oh, and I wouldn't want to store a backup key very far away from the pistol safe. Murphy's Law and all that...

My other option is to sleep with the gun like Sledge Hammer. Am I the only one that remembers that show? LOL

Thanks guys. I've going to look into the GunVault brand more and price shop.

Loved it! Got the whole series on DVD too. :woot:

pc.

Awesome! I can't hear "Trust me, I know what I'm doing." without thinking of that show. I always thought it would make a good remake into a present day goofy movie.
