What order should I go in? Zaino products + Autoglym Super Resin Polish

Hey all,

Im looking to detail my vehicle on my own. Im by no means a pro -- will be doing it all by hand.

Id like to get rid of some of the swirls first with Autoglym SRP... at what point should I use this if I plan on doing a zaino detailing? Should I do it before the Zaino application? Before claybaring?

Im thinking of doing:

1. wash with dawn

2. claybar

3. Autoglym SRP

4. Wash with Z7

5. Begin Zaino application of Z2, Z6, Z8

Suggestions?

Thanks

You might want to consider something other than Zaino if you want to conceal swirls. To get real durability out of Zaino, you'll want to put it down on bare paint, not on top of SRP. You might consider going out and getting some Megs Ultimate Wax, that should work pretty well with SRP, it conceals a bit as well. The Zaino products are solvent rich and will likely remove all the SRP.

Are you missing Z2 or Z5 in there? If not, there will be no need to use Z1 or step 4, the wash, you could just top SRP with Z8 or Z6. Z1 is a bonding agent, its hasn't been sold in 8 or so years.

In closing, Zaino on a swirled surface is terrible.

Sorry, That Z1 should of said Z2...

The paint isnt in too bad of a condition. Just some minor swirls. Car has 10,000KM's on it and has been garage kept mainly (with minimal swirls to the paint).

My initial thought process was to use the SRP to get rid of the swirls, and then zaino on top of it for the shine. Would it not be possible to use the SRP to get rid of the swirls, and then claybar it off? Would that essentially reveal the swirls all over again?

Removing swirls by hand is like walking from coast to coast. Sure you can do it, but its just not reasonable. By hand, you won't be actually removing many swirls with SRP. Like I said, you might get some ok concealing with SRP but you'll erase all of it with Zaino, and then Zaino makes swirls look MUCH worse. Your formula is IFFY at best, I'd recommend a more proven approach:

-Machine Polish then follow with Zaino

or

-use SRP and follow with a compatible product that conceals

I agree with Dan. Either spend the money on a DA polisher (the Harbor Freight model is pretty good and the latest issue of Motor Trend, May 2013, has a coupon in it for $49.99 for the buffer) and polish the car out properly before using Zaino; or for now, use a polish and wax that will conceal what swirls you have now.
