What one would you choose and why?

The only problems I have ever had with the PC, backing plate, and pads have been:
1. Velcro coming loose from a pad.
2. Replaced a Velcro backing plate worn enough that pads were not holding well.
3. Centering pads can be a nuisance.

Since all those problems would be eliminated by the Edge system, I would probably go with the Edge kit. The one drawback is being limited to using Edge pads, but they seem to be of good quality so that shouldn't be a problem.

We agree with you on this one. Having been through several backing plates and more LC pads than we can remember, we recently switched to the Edge 2000 system for both the rotary and the PC's. Although the Edge pads do cost more, you are getting "2" pads per pad. Since I use the rotary a lot more than my partner Jason, the centering of the pad always drove me crazy, the 2K system eliminated it.

The edge system is not the end all be all. The hook andloop system has lots of problems but so does the edge system.

I personaly use edge but have ncountered a few probelems such as

-pad splitting, this car f-up the paint if the plastic disc hits. luckly i cought it before. I have found that the softer pads seem to go quicker. Im not sure they last longer then one hook and loop since they split

- i have also found that on the softer pads, every once in a while the pc wil touch the back side of the pad and will burn the pad, wrecking one side.

These problems have been encountered by myself, my partner, and a few freinds.

However having said that there are many pluses as well.

- The quick connect and disconnnect is AWSOME, enough said

- the pads are double sided so I find im nore willing to flip it over to prevent pad clogging

I will say I do use the edge as does my partner becasue we have found then to be better then the lc or other hook and loop pads. I just thought that you should know some of the cons to the pad so you can make an edcuated descion on which you would like. By no means was i meaning to trash any company or pad. Im just letting people know my experinces..

p.s I use a pc so they are the DA pads... i have heard it makes a difference but i dont know

Calgary:
By "softer pads" are you referring to finishing pads or does this also occur with a polishing pad?
What are the conditions that cause the pad to contact the PC and "burn" the pad?
Since I own quite a few Velcro pads, it's unlikely that the Edge system will be one that I will own, but I have considered selling all my Velcro pads and backing plate to make the switch. :D

yes when i say softer pad i do mean the polishing and finshing pads. The cutting pads ae much stiffer and for some reason they have not come apart. Maybe its becsue i dont use them as much.
As for the bad burning.. nothing special really. Im not at home so i cant get pictures right now but i was just applying a coat ot AIO with a pc (i know some ppl will call me mad) when i smelt somthing burning. I was working on a 200? saturn(nothing special or weird). about half way through the detail my partner goes WTF (except a little more colourfull) his pad stinks and when we look at it it has a black burned circle from the grey part of the pc (the part that is overtop the pad) .

i start laughing thinking he did somthing wrong.. about 5 minutes later i notice a burning smell. turns out karma came to bite me in an ass. turns out the same thing happened to my blue finishing pad.

so i dunno this is just my experience.

I've had the Edge System for my PC since April and no problems and we have 5 vehicles, mostly suv's. Even the custom 4" orange and 4" blue Edge pads Aaron made me have held up well, orange has a slight tear but it caught an edge of my V8 emblem lol. So much less vibration then backing plate pads. Not sure what's going on above with burning smells and marks, and I've used my pads at full tilt for hours straight especially on our trucks??

I'm not going to comment on the Edge pads because I haven't used them and well take what I have to say about the 6" pads with a grain of salt because I haven't used those specific pads. But I have used 6 inch pads previously and had the velcro backing on the pads fail after about 20 uses. The supplier said that was normal life of that pad. I have then switched to 7.5" variable contact Lake Country pads and have many, many details with them with no issues at all. Sure the pads will rip and tear if you abuse them (hit them on trim and sharp edges) and that is the case for all pads.

Search for the Edge pads around and you'll find mixed opinions. Some love them and some have had problems. However, all of these problems, when (and IF) brought to the attention of the company, are resolved.
