What music download program are you using?

I have been using Bearshare for a few years now, and up until now have absolutely loved it. It was a free Peer to Peer program for downloading and backing up of music, video, pictures, etc.

Well, they have now upgraded their software and are requiring a subscription fee, which isn't a problem at all. I don't mind one bit paying for my downloads, but I DO have a big problem with much slower download speeds, and very limited search results. It was normal for me to see over 10mbps download speeds (I have a 12meg connection) when downloading multiple files with multiple connections. Well, the new version of Bearshare only allows 1 connection per file, and doesn't find anywhere NEAR as many files when doing a search, and, to me, this just isn't worth paying for. I rarely see anything over 1mbps downloads now.

Since I have been so disappointed by Bearshare with their "new and improved" software, I went ahead and downloaded Limewire Pro (paid for their subscription) because they advertised "Turbocharged download speeds" and it also came highly recommended by quite a few friends. Well.....I don't like that one either. Again, its nowhere NEAR as fast as Bearshare used to be, and doesn't find as search results as the original BS either.

What do I do? Is there anything out there that competes with the old Bearshare?? I want fast downloads and tons of search results, and I don't mind paying for it.

Yeah, Im a torrent user too. Im kinda worried about getting in trouble tho hahaha, I know a few people that got caught.

Yeah, I used to have Limewire, but removed it when I started college. A friend of mine got busted and had to remove the offending files from his computer or face legal charges. You can guess which option he took.

I use Itunes... I pay for my music but the songs take all of 15 seconds to download. I don't worry about getting caught :bat

Same here. It's just easier to use my iPod with iTunes, and I don't mind paying for the tunes I want to hear.

I Use limewire, and ITunes, normally i use itunes but sometimes i cant find the song that i want so i goto limewire.

I've used Ares for years now, like 4-5? Don't remember lol...never had any issues. I've found a lot of hard to find songs on there that had a hard time finding on Limewire. I have a couple hundred dollars in gift cards for I-Tunes....now just need to get an I-Pod lol.

utorrent and a torrent indexing site. I usually buy the album of artists I support, even though they don't make any money from the albums anyway (album companies rake up the profits, and artists are left in the cold).

I will never use a service like iTunes, since I find the concept of paying $1.00 for a flawed, lossy, compressed copy of a song ridiculous. For the same equivalent price, I can buy a full album from Amazon or half.com (which have the original, loseless version of the songs).

Plus, when I buy the album, I can do what I want with my music, exactly the way it should. The concept of paying $.99 for someone else to tell me what to do with my flawed copy of a song is just downright ludicrous!

sorry, had to vent...

But for individual songs, Ares seems to work OK. I don't keep it installed though, I quit using P2P programs a long time ago for the most part :).
