What might have been

Autopia fire/rescue.
Yesterday afternoon was simply beautiful! I had spent the day running errands, going to the UMass Medical Center to donate blood and do a little gift shopping for the wife for Easter. I got home around 5:00PM and decided to wash my F-150.



I had washed the right front fender and door when I could hear the wail of a Federal Q siren and other sirens approaching. Engine 3 went by my house at about Mach 1, with 4 Police cruisers drafting it!



I am a Captain in my Fire Department, and have my own portable radio assigned to me. It was in my truck so I turned it on to hear



"Engine 3 to Fire Alarm...Engine 3 on arrival, single car MVA, with fire and entrapment...roll an additional Engine and get Hudson here mutual aid and get LifeFlight in the air!"



(Hudson is the next town over from us)



Knowing they had something really nasty, I quickly rinsed the panels, grabbed my camera and drove down the road until I saw the Police cruisers redirecting traffic.



Three teenagers in a Ford Probe had been driving at a high rate of speed on Parmenter Road in Hudson, which becomes Hemenway Street Extension when it crosses the Marlborough city line. There is a crest of a hill at the city/town line, apparently the driver was attempting to "catch air" going over the crest....only he lost control and smashed the Probe into a group of trees!



The engine compartment was fully involved. The firefighters pulled a hose line and literally pushed the fire out of the passenger compartment back into the engine area where it was extinguished. Once the fire was knocked down, rescue efforts began.



The passenger in the back seat of the Probe had gotten out and only had minor bumps and bruises. The front seat passenger crawled out of the wreck and collapsed on a lawn. He had severe back and neck pain. Both were transported to Marlborough Hospital for evaluation and treatment.



The driver of the car was pinned under the dash and steering wheel...it took the crews of two Engines (Marlborough Engine 3 and Hudson Engine 5), 2 Rescues (Marlborough Rescue 1 and Hudson Rescue 1) 55 minutes to cut the car apart to extricate him while police officers and paramedics were treating him for his injuries. At one point, 4 sets of extrication tools were being used to cut, spread, pry and ram the dashboard to get him out of the wreckage. Once he was out, he was transported to the nearest Life Flight landing zone, where he was flown out to a trauma center. The driver had multiple fractures of both legs (ankles, Tibias/fibias and femurs...basically, all the bones of the legs!) a fractured pelvis and smoke inhalation from the fire.



I shot 2 rolls of film for a total of 40 pics. The Police requested the film from my camera for them to use as part of the accident reconstruction. I am getting copies of the prints and free photo processing courtesy of the City! :D



I finally got to wash my truck this morning! :D
 
WOW:scared I would'nt trade you jobs for anything, Thaks for saving all of us, at one time or another everyone will need a firefighter!
 
Not too long ago, Todd mentioned that PAC was working on a Blackfire AIO. He posed the question, would we rather have and AIO sealant, or AIO wax. With the potential of another vendor distributing the line, will this R&D continue as well. Is anyone but me curious what this product might have been?
 
I don't use AIO products very often, except Klasse for certain applications. Since the purpose of an AIO is speed and convenience I would say a sealant would be a better choice for durability. But, hey if it's an AIO, why not make a hybrid?

I just hope the line does continue and doesn't get tarnished by someone less concerned with quality.
 
It is a private label product. Somebody else actually makes the stuff.

PAC simply did a very nice job of distributing and promoting the name Blackfire.

A "new" Blackfire product is most likely a product that already exist, under another name.

I would think the brand will continue unless the actual manufacturer thinks that they can pick up more sales in their own product line by ceasing their private label support of Blackfire.

But add contract, legal issue, a shutdown (financial failure?) of PAC, and who knows how it will play out. My guess is a legal team somewhere is looking at the different options and needs to make some decisions before a new path can be forged.
