I was wondering before I buy some more MF's what you guys are using for certain areas on the car (I.e...buffing, glass, qd and interior)

and is anyone using cotton anymore for buffing? 100% made in the usa stuff?

Thanks.

Nah all us Autopians are above cotton now. Let those who have one bucket for washing cars use it. :p

I got cheapo MF I use for interiors and glass. My beloved Pakshaks only see paint. The standard MF can be used for all things you mentioned. Only the thicker WW should be used for drying.

I was using 100% cotton, then I picked up some WW's for drying (way better than cotton). Some MF towels for polish/wax remover and a buffing towel to finish it all off.

Now that I am convinced these are far superior to 100% cotton I am ordering a kit of towels from Pakshak

You may consider getting the MF's that don't lint. Or you'll see traces of lint wherever you used them:scared

One way to test for lint, wipe your sunglasses with the MF and hold to the light. If they are poor quality you'll see all the lint on the lense.

Get different colors, for the different detail and devote them to that application.

I purchased MF's from Ranney at Pakshak and they Do Not lint.:up

srtchad,

I use the Elite Buffing Towel for QD and Buffing. It has one plush side, great for QD, and light buffing, and a "less plush" side for more intense buffing.

The Pro Detailing Towel is a great all purpose towel, good for all jobs, especially interiors.

The Ultimate Glass Towel is great for windows, glass and chrome. It has no pile, and is very absorbent so that it will not leave streaks.

The Maximum Drying Towel is a great waffle-weave towel for drying. It is super absorbent and soft. Waffle-weave towels are great for drying because they tend to hold on to water better than the terry towels, and are less likely to streak.

Remember when you get your towels not to wash them with other cotton towels (this can lead to linting), bleach (deteriorates the towels) or fabric softener (clogs the fibers).

There are some great vendors out there, Autopia, CMA, PakShak, to name a few. But no matter who you buy from feel free to ask me any questions that you may have. I am available at my toll free line: 888-657-AUTO, or email sales@autofiber.com .

Good Luck!

Ian

I also still use cotton toweling for cleaning my leather. Apply/Remove cleaner with cotton towel. Apply conditioner with my hand, final buffing with 100% cotton. In fact my favorite leather chair states in the care instructions...Do NOT use microfiber to clean the leather. I follow those instructions for all of my leather products.

I agree with Ian, there are numerous sources of good/excellent microfiber products. Luckily for the members of Autopia many of those sources are members of our community. I don't have any poor quality MF products, though some are better than others. But, between the vendors here I don't think you will find a large variance in the quality of their products, or their customer service.

I use waffle-weave for everything now, except for leather. My terry MF's are slowly dwindling in number as I 'abuse' them on dirty parts of the car (sort of the way the Lakers abused the Spurs, Mr Clean! hehe).

Intermezzo, There just is no call for getting ugly :D Is it over? I admittedly didn't watch a minute of the series :o After the Mavericks made their early bow out of the fray, my interest dwindled.

What do you use for leather? MF terry or cotton?
