What is the most obscure detail job you ever had

Im wondering what is the weirdest thing anybody detailed. Im asking because this evening a customer who comes to me on a semi regular basis called tonight and asked if I could detail his diecast collection. I started thinking while he was talking that how many 1/24 scale cars can somebody have? It was on the tip of my tounge... $25.00. Then he told me that he had well over 300 NASCAR diecast cars. I damn near dropped the phone. He asked me a price and I hoonestly had to tell him to give me a few minutes and I will call him back. Now knowing a bit about NASCAR diecast and having a couple choice cars myself, I picked one up off of my office shelf and pulled out theMF,QD, NXT paste wax. It took me about 4 minutes art to finish on one car. Im going to quote him $600.00 and basing it on the time to do one car, Im quoting him low. He also has 12-24 car acrylic cases all in one room. Not a bad rainy day job if you ask me. I hope he goes for my quote. Oh just so you know how this happened, He had come to me a few years ago and had me detail his jeep cherokee. He had a couple of diecast car boxes in the back and we started talking about his collection. He had told me that he had hundreds of cars and I thought he was blowing smoke up my butt but I guess he wasnt.

Polished pianos with the polyester high gloss finishes but the funniest one was a piano that was done from the factory with a satin finish. The way satin finish is done on pianos, they are first made shiny and then scatched to make it satin, the way you would make satin finish on stainless steel for example. But after years of using furniture polish they couldn't get it to shine, duh! With a lot of patience, I was able to clean off the furniture polish, and re-scratch in the satin lines.

Detail die-cast cars??? I'm sorry, but I actually laughed out loud on that one. That is obscure my friend.

I did a stainless steel fridge. It had smudges and marks on it that my aunt absolutely could not remove, no matter how hard she tried. It got blue PwC :).

Oh yeah, and I detailed a Vespa with wicked scuff marks. It took a little while, actually, cause I had to 2000 grit sand half the foolish thing, then use PG via rotary.

To add to thos story, I got the job! I told him 2.25 per car. I explained how I came up with the price and got the job from him. I went to the house this morning and took a look for myself. The room is unbelievable! There are display cases all over the walls filled with damn near every Earnhardt Sr and Jr diecast there is. He has a hood off Sr's car on the ceiling, a valve cover that has the DEI logo on it, autographed photos and so much other memoriblia. I was definately impressed. I told him that I will do it as soon as I get a rainy day and explained why I would perfer a rainyday. I also told him I will do the cases for no extra charge. I think as fanatical he is, I could have told him $3.00 per car and still had the job.

This is a cool thread :D

Leather cleaning/conditioning a regular client's leather furniture, that was cool rainy day ca$h!

Oh yeah, and I detailed a Club Cadet lawn tractor for another regular.

Oh yeah I conditioned a leather recliner too, and detailed the grille of a friend's car after he totaled it. He kept the grille, so I told him that he MUST let me take all those bugs splatters off and polish it. :)

I tend to detail my diecast collection when I have time or atleast wax them once then put them away. Please post pics of this collection and update us with how it came out. 300 is pretty impressive, it gets addicting collecting them or atleast it did for me thank god Mark's retiring lol

Forgot to mention, my wife does a fantastic job detailing the kitchen. :xyxthumbs

She's not allowed to detail my car, and I'm not allowed to detail her kitchen. :nomore: :argue :bow

Fine by me! I'll go :hide: in the garage and do a little :buffing: :waxing:

This was fun. I have a client who is a maintenance superintendant for a local golf course. He wanted me to clean-up his personal golf cart. I've also detailed a clients John Deere lawn tractor. He takes care of that tractor as if it were a fine car. Both of these jobs were done as a 'courtesy.'

A bit oversaturated but you get the idea

This may be the only place on the planet I can admit to this (my wife thought me totally insane).

I've detailed my Mont Blanc pen. No clay bar, but a little paint cleaner, a little sealant. All with MF towels, of course.

Twice.
