What Is The Best Wheel Cleaner

Hey guys my GF has a 335i BMW. I would like to know what is the best wheel cleaner to use the wheels are really black and caked on.

How long has it been since the wheels were last cleaned? How often do you intend to clean the wheels? Weekly? Annually?

Welcome aboard!

I recommend Sonax Full effect. Spray it on, let it sit for a few minutes, give it a quick scrub and pressure rinse off. This cleaner is good for heavy iron and is ph neutral so it won't damage the finish overtime.

answering these questions will help point you in the right direction.

Megs wheel brightener is "THE BEST" wheel cleaner that is readily available. That said, there are some safety issues with it, both for you and your wheels. The best wheel cleaner for regular use is P21S. Now if you mean the best but most easily found, Eagle One A2Z is pretty good.

After you give them a good clean, make sure to hit them up with a good durable LSP or the Armor All Wheel Protectant. From there on, all you (should) have to do is wash them with your regular car soap and a wash mitt. The need for an aggressive wheel cleaner is really reserved for the beaten up jobs IMO. If properly cared for, nothing more than just giving them a once-over while washing (not using the same mitt/pad on your wheels as you use on your paint of course) will bring them back to shine. Otherwise Sonax has a good *safe* wheel cleaner.

~95% of the time I find a simple car wash solution and agitation sufficient (I typically use a sealant on my wheels that makes regular maintenance easier). The other 5% I have had good luck with an APC (like Meguiars APC+) or the A2Z yakky mentioned. However, to be honest, I haven't had any real "stubborn" issues with my own vehicles and only a few instances with vehicles of family and friends (I don't do this for as living).

Personally, I always try the soap and agitation route first before grabbing one of my APC's or task-specific cleaners. ....but to Tom's question(s), what solution will work "best" in your scenario will depend.

Yes, that's mostly true. On a clear coated wheel like this, Acid will safely out perform non-acid cleaners. Meg's is a good and safe alternative too.

Not to hijack but what wheel brushes are you guys using on chrome wheels for example?

I've been just using a (designated) MF wash mitt to scrub, however I'm trying to find a deal on one of those daytona speed wheel brushes I've seen around (since my PAC order didn't come through with any of the brushes I ordered...). Otherwise I just have a regular little plastic bristle brush I got from AutoZone for getting the inner wheel to hold me over until I get a real wheel brush.

Ok thanks and thanks everyone for your help
