What is a good Manager Pay?

What is a good starting pay for a Manager of a detail department within a Dealership ? I would be responsible for everything within the detailing the area of detailing. We will be doing around 60-70 cars a month to start with and there will be one other person until there is more needed.

What did they offer you? Most dealership detail shops that I know of have a set salary for managers. Its not really negotiable unless you bring a lot of experience at other dealerships or detail shops to the table. Whenever you work in a shop you are going to make less money than if you were running your own business. Working full time you should be able to do more than 60 or 70 cars a month. Detail shops that I am familiar with do 60 or 70 cars a week. It doesn't sound like you can expect a lot of money at that particular place. Probably less than 30K.

One would think that a good manager would be able to calculate the profit margin in 30-60 cars per month.

Figuring in the overhead as well as the labor & material costs. 30-70 cars per month is like 3 cars per day. Add in the cost of that other employee and figure in taxes and you're in the ballpark of what they can afford. For me, I would think that this position would pay, at the most, $20k-26K per year ($12.50/hr) -- for based on the volume and the information given I can't see a profit margin supporting much more.

As for how much a good detail department manager commends, I would think that an experienced manager, with the ability to successfully manage and grow a business would/should be a salaried employee and as such would be looking in the $40-50K/yr.

Just my opinion though... take what ya like and leave the rest

You wont get paid jack at a dealership and they want everything done yesterday. They wont give you the time to do the vehicles properly.(hence the bad rep. dealer installed swirls and what not)

Where I work one of the sales people told me that detailing is like a Burger King job.

How can you be a manager of one person? Sounds like a really small department. The title sounds impressive, but there isn't the volume at that place to back it up. If you make $200 bucks a week then I would say you are doing very well in that place. You can make $200 bucks a day as your own boss in this industry. I made $280 last week in my spare time and I don't have much spare time. Between a full time job and a family I don't get to detail as much as I used to.

The title is impressive, and if they are going to put you in charge of ordering supplies, scheduling appointments, hiring, training new employees, and all that fun stuff, then I can see it being good experinece to get. If this is the field you want to work in and you want experience in running a shop then I say go for it. You can't buy experinece like that on a resume. Then again... which is more impressive do you think...? Saying that you managed a small dealership detail shop or saying that you ran your own sucessful business? Its something to consider. I'd take the job for the experience at least. You won't make your fortune doing it, but you can still detail in your spare time for extra $$$. Managing the shop would just be your day job.
