What happened to all the excitement over Surf City products?

I love the Road Trip Grime Destroyer, glass cleaner and the 2 detail sprays. I guess once it went otc, the hype died.

Replace "Surf City" in the title of the thread with any product brand over the past eight or nine years and it works just as well. :)

I dunno which went quicker, Surf City or DoDo. Both have to be some of the shortest. No diss on the products, never fell for either, just sayin...

Dodo is still going strong on the other detailing forums..... especially with their new line of products they just recently released. I still enjoy Supernatural.

Heh heh - yeah... Now all we need is a thread talking about how Chemical Guys makes both of them and a rehash of the Zaino/Duragloss debate and the circle will be completed. :D

Dodo does very well. I really like their born 2 be mild shampoo.

I think it's product over-load. Didn't most of us at one time have the "need to try everything" bug? I know I did. But, after time, you learn to be a bit leery of new stuff and fall back on what you like, what works consistantly, best bang for the buck stuff. I guess Surf City is a good as the rest, but they didn't set the world on fire and the prices were a little higher than what I was use to paying. Dodo on the other hand, did offer a great deal on 8 sample sizes of waxes, I liked a couple and didn't care for the rest. Personal opinion ok, but, here again, I think most folks are a little tight with the cash right now and boutique stuff is a luxury.

I do think cash is tighter these days but honestly, both brands were heavy on marketing and when reading between the lines, I wasn't seeing the results. Honestly, to me, heavy marketing is a big turnoff.

The universe is a closed circle. Why would you expect anything less?

However, my guess Surf City is probably selling more than less these days with the OTC available at Pep Boy's. A lot of products seem to get no attention on forums yet exist and sell well.

What? DoDo Juice is no longer cool? Why am I always the last to know? :nixweiss

I personally think that DoDo makes some great waxes and find the price point reasonable. The supernatural is top shelf, the orange crush & banana armour work wonders on my Grabber Orange mustang paint and the hard candy makes the red rock pearl on my Grand Cherokee pop. Can't say I've been the least bit disappointed in any of the DoDo wax I have tried.

There is no interesting USP about Surf City products at all.

It's always the same whole story. Nothing innovative that'll produce a significantly noticeable difference. So, it becomes just another brand.

Surf City is still selling well. It's featured on a few TV car shows as well.

All has to remember that detailing forums make up about 15% of the sales market. This was told to me by a 3M rep and I believe it.

15% sounds very high to me. I'd be surprised if it was 1.5%/
