What Happened Here

This hood looked like it was covered in swirls but after using IP and Orange pad and Cyclo this is what it looks like. This is on the hood only, the fenders and the rest of car polished out perfect.

Looks like Clearcoat failure. Cracking and checking.



Can you get a closer shot? Not a Jeep, by chance?

My dad has the same thing on his 97 Jeep Wrangler...

I had a car years ago with a SMC hood, which checked badly before the rest of the car. Same issue as today with painted plastic spoilers and mirrors. Been discussed before, not sure if it's that the paint/process is different because of the flexibility/temperature tolerance of the plastics, or if it has to do with the thermal conductivity of the plastic in the sun.
