When it rains and your car is out in it, whether you are driving or at work or whatever, how long do you usually take to wash it? I work a lot so I only get the chance to wash my cars on the weekends. How long do you wait?

I think most people have this issue here. So they wait until the weekend. I pretty much wash rain or shine every weekend.

If the rain didn't kick up any major dirt onto the paint (no visible dirt on the paint) then I wait until it won't rain for a few days for a wash.

If the car has some dirt on the paint, I wait until the weekend for a wash.

If the dirt is really light I just take care of it with a MF and some QD.

Right now it's non-stop rain here in the bay area, no dirt on my car since the buckets of rain have washed the street surfaces fairly clean :)

I wash as soon as possible. In my climate, pine needles, assorted grit gets carried into trim areas quickly so I remove water as soon as I can to prevent the "creeping crud" buildup problem in small crannies. It helps keep the car clean for the next detailing/waxing. My applicators dont find that "hidden spot of grit" that turns the applicator gray suddenly ;)

I'm OCD and upon returning home from work I check the weather channel! If there's no threat of rain for the next morning then I'm washing my ride. Yes, even in the dark!

In fact I did this very thing tonight when I got home. Looks like the rain here in NJ is ending and tomorrow promises to be sunny.

YEEESSSS!!!!!

I tend to wash my car as soon as I'm able to after a rain, sometimes when it's still raining (much to the puzzlement of the neighbors).

I just don't always know when my next wash opportunity will come.

And if the car is really dirty (bird crap, etc.), I am out washing my baby, whether it's pouring or sunny. I've had too many bad etching experiences to let the really nasty stuff linger.

Well now I am getting some responses that I thought I would from some of you. :)

I try to wash it asap but I don't always get the chance. Plus I have to keep two vehicles maintained as my wife has no clue about cleaning vehicles. I work nights and am at work until 11pm every night and I have been helping out at my father-in-laws machine shop for the last few months so there goes the mornings. I leave my house at 8am and get home at 11:45. I would wash it when I got home but I have found washing in the dark is hard sometimes and I do need some sleep. I just feel bad I can't was it every day. My truck is very muddy right now because it rained yesterday and I took that as an opportuity to go romping in the mud after I got off work last night. Now I have to clean it all up Tomorrow when I get off work. Luckily I don't have to work Friday nights at my primary job so I will be home around 2:30 to do some clean up.

As soon as I can. Customer's come first though. I thought about washing mine today when I finished for the day but I'd already been outside cleaning cars since 9am and it never got out of the mid 30s today.
