What chemical do you use to get wax out of trim and crevices?

Last year I used Megs APC+ and it stained the hell out of my trim. So bad I replaced a section of it.

I need something I can spray into cracks and door handles that will not stain trim. We asked over on the Megs forum about Megs Safty D-Greaser and got inclonclusive answers.

Thanks.

I was thinking a 50/50 iso alchol/water mix, but i think that would stain the trim. I have the same problem, there are small amount of wax build up in the very tiny crevices on the trim in the window moldings. The only way i see getting it ALL out is spending hours picking at it with a toothpic!! :( There's got to be another way chemically that would pretty much dissolve the wax buildup without harming the trim.

I use a soft Boar's hair brush (tooth brush size) and S&W or QD.

Could you use some thing like PB TR? From what I have read it will break down wax. You could saturate the trim piece and then gently scrub it with a soft brush then blast it with water.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser followed up by Trim Restore. Worked wonderfully on a neighbors Pontiac Aztec, which has too much trim, and still looks good after 2 months.

How about Vanilla Moose or Trim Restorer? Armor All's All Purpose Cleanre is something I like a lot and it may work on trim. I haven't bought in years due to my massive collection of detailing stuff (more than I'll ever use), but it was (and pretty much still is) one of my favorites for interior cleaning.

I can recommend a product thatâ€â„¢s specifically formulated to remove dried wax from trim and works for me 100% (you like this so far?)

;)

OK it gets worse its called Dried-On Wax Remover (hereâ€â„¢s the part you wonâ€â„¢t like :nixweiss â€Â¦Groitâ€â„¢s P/N11216 $6.99 S&H $6.49

Just don't shoot the dumbarchitect :wavey

haha great shipping price! :) jk I have some small painter's brushes that i might try to remove the wax buildup...the only problem is the crevices im talking about are so thin and small. I might try soaking in APC, then try the painters brush.

I have used 3M wax and adhesive remover with pretty good luck. It is a tough problem so right now I'm just looking for a polish that won't stain trim.

Have to say when I detail cars with black trim on them I tend to lean towards products that don't stain trim and just go straght over them, such as AIO, VM and CMW.

Lazy? Maybe, but the one bit of detailing I dislike the most is dealing with trim!

peanut butter (no chuncks) :p

I thought that the peanut oils only 'cover' the wax on a temp basis....but then I was using chunky PB LOL

I just use a detail brush with slightly stiff bristles and an old toothbrush (often wrapped inside a microfiber) to get wax out of crevices.

I think depending on what you're dealing with, it'll be hit or miss. Due to the fact your posts are usually deep and informative, I thought for a second chunky PB was like a new PoorBoys product or something...ha !...too early...caffine hasn't kicked in yet :p
