What *can* I put on repaint?

Obsessed... who me?
A regular customer had several panels on his car repainted and he wants to know if I can put anything on to protect his paint.

I told him that here on Autopia, the concensus is to wait 30 days or longer before wax/sealant and he said the body shop said the same thing.

So... is there anything else I can put on that can provide a little protection? VM? #80? Or are those not good for a repaint either?

Besides the Mother's, if you don't need the cut of the #80, you can use Meg's #3, #5, #7,or #81. *I* usually use 3M's IHG.

I don't think I'd use VM, though. It's a bit too much like a "regular wax" for this application.

Excellent. Thanks for the replies all!

Looks like I'll go with #7. Only other glaze's I have are VM and #80 and like Accumulator said, I don't need any cutting power since this is a brand new repaint.

Just curious... why is it a bad idea to wax/seal a fresh repaint before the 30 day waiting period?

While the paint feels dry to the touch, the solvents in the paint are "off gassing".

In the vehicle assembly plants, the paints are cured at high tempratures because there are no plastic parts installed at that stage.

In a body shop spray/bake booth, the paint is dried at 120 to 140 degrees because of all the plastic components built into the car.

Polishes like #3 and #7 do not seal the paint and do offer some protection from the elements.
