What can I do about this?

The day was going pretty good until this happened:

A mysterious metal rod (never seen it before in my life) fell on my hood while the garage door was going down. :shocked



Needless to say I'm not very happy about this. My question is, what can I do about this besides repainting the whole hood? Can I fill it in with touch up paint and smooth it off by wetsanding with 2000 grit? If I can't do anything to make it not noticable, then I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get it repainted. The chip is about 1 inch long btw.

That looks like a job for touch up paint. I'm not an expert on the method, but I've seen it done correctly and its not too complicated. The first thing you need to do is get a bottle of paint matched to your color. If the car is still pretty new and the color is still close to factory color (meaning that it hasn't faded much) then you can just take the paint code off your door and get a bottle of touch up paint. I'll let the experts instruct you on the proper way to touch up. Its not too tough to do, but you do need to be patient and careful. Haste can ruin the whole thing and make you have to start over. I already have the touch up paint, I just would like some pointers about the wetsanding, and the steps to take after the wetsanding.
