what can be done for this gray plastic Ford Explorer bumper?

This Explorer belongs to my neighbor. I've used numerous dressings on the bumper but nothing lasts very long. And if it gets wet forget it... even the morning dew that drips down the bumper causes streaking. What can I do to improve the appearance? Will any dressings work for this?

Thanks for any suggestions! :woot2:

PB trim resorer.. you just need to keep putting it on.. and once you got it to where you want it buff off with a cotten towel it will take a few app's though

id consider forever black trim dye...it doesnt wash off

but dont use the applicator that comes with it...empty some into a tub and use a small sponge to try and evenly apply it

Are they plastic or painted metal??? The bumpers that were on my ranger looked like that, they were metal bumpers, painted grey.

I have used Black WOW to restore plastic like that and it works GREAT..and the best part it lasts a long time.....after 2 treatments with BW within a weeks time they looked new again...now I just use protectant to keep them up...they still look new...no fading back to gray...

For a cheap, OTC solution, you can try Stoner Trim Shine. I used this on my father's 02 Explorer (lots of grey lower plastic), and it worked great. If that doesn't work, then spend the $25 on Black WOW.

I've had the best luck with Klasse AIO diluted with water (anywhere from 1:1 to 1:10 is ok) and a scrub brush. Once it's clean WOWO some Klasse sealant and you're good for a while. Duragloss 291 flat black bumper rubber treatment is good too.

I'm a fan of duragloss, but black wow beats 291 hands down.

x3 on BLACK WOW. Your neighbor will be good for some time after the first use. Cant tell you how long, but will last many washes and wet mornings.

I'm 99% certain it is a plastic bumper.

That sounds like an interesting approach. I can't find DG 291 on their site but what you describe sounds like 271 which I have/used. It didn't take long for it to wear away either but I didn't clean it with the AIO beforehand.

Thank y'all for the suggestions.

I am going to try Black Wow on the bumper and I will update this thread after I use it.

;)

Is that all streaking of the dressing you used or is the plastic oxidized and chalky from sun exposure? If it is oxidation then I have had success cleaning off the oxidation with white vinegar and buffing it with #0000 steel wool. It exfoliated the top layer of plastic and revealed nice clean new looking plastic. I've been impressed with using the Ultima TTPG on exterior trim. It won't restore worn plastic to look new but new looking plastic looks great and the durablity has been very good. It's been about 3 months so far, applied 3x in the middle of October.
