What can be done about a noisy neighbor?

I have the most horrible neighbors since I moved here 7 years ago. They moved here in March. I have called the police twice about the noise starting at 2AM and continuing until 5AM. He almost confronted me today when I was getting out of my car and he was walking to his. I am contemplating filing a nuisance lawsuit against him. Any advice?:hairpull

The noise is hammering and banging like they're in the construction or furniture making business. Sometimes it's a few minutes and other times it's a few hours. A few weeks ago it started at 2AM and continued until after 5AM. I was really super pissed!!!!!

When you here the pounding again call the police and have them stand out side of there house and listen to the noise. Let them decide what to do. I would call the police every time until they did something.

I hate reading stories like this.

Some people are just inconsiderate. Who knows why.... parents didn't give them enough toys to play with when they were little?

I probably would have talked to them first before calling the cops. But since you already called the cops I wouldn't bother talking to them now... it would just make matters worse I think, for you.

Just call the police every time they make a noise. Sooner or later they will get fined or stop.

Sorry to hear about your neighbor troubles :(

I have a neighbor who parks her car directly behind my driveway on the opposite side of the street. Our street is super narrow so I'm always within inches of hitting her car.

I've asked her to park a little forward so it's not directly behind me... but she doesn't. I suppose she's just a beatch.

Anyway I only wish I had a real beater. I'd just back it into the car and she would probably never park there again. Unfortunately both my cars are nice :)

Have you spoken to them directly? If so, how'd the conversation go? If not, why not?

Like so many things, start with the least aggressive solution and then step it up if it's not working.

And while you're talking to them, get their home and work numbers. This way you can call them the next time they're getting noisy, but I wouldn't give that as a reason. My reason to get my neighbor's numbers is because my neighbor's house recently caught fire. No one was home (all at work) and there was no way to contact them.

I have an ongoing issue with my neighbor and if it's taught me anything it's to try to speak with them rationally. I know you called the police already, but I'd try having a conversation with them about the noise. If that doesn't work then rely on the police to enforce the local noise bylaws, which I am 99% positive say no construction noise can occur after 11pm at the latest. Here it's 10pm.
