A lot of cars now are coming out with protection on rear door and quarter panels, that is a type of clear film. what are you using to clean it when you detail, when the dirt appears underneath?

APC and a detailing brush. Crystal Seal type of LSP product to coat once clean. Keep "wax" and other products away for fear of staining.

the dirt is mostly UNDER the edges of those plastic strips. in order to remove it you would have to get underneath which of course is impossible.

There is very little impossible for a Professional Detailer..

There are these really nice little green brushes that have regular toothbrush bristles on one end and very short bristles on the other end..
They are perfect for carefully getting under the clearbra and sliding the hard junk out, and also getting cleaner in there to wash out staining..

There are other short china bristle brushes that are square and short handled for Detailers that are stiff enough to get under the clearbra edge and move stuff out..

Another option is to very carefully pressure wash the edges using a Fan type nozzle, and a lot of care...

I do this all the time and have never had problems or created them..

Good luck,

German cars have had that Paint Protection Film since forever. I've had the film discolor on my wife's A8 (after 15 years and ~140K), but I'm not convinced that it was from waxing it (wax didn't discolor it one the '93 Audi, and UPP, BF, and whatever I used before that haven't discolored it on the S8).

This won't really help the original poster, but the best thing is to keep the edges of the PPF sealed tightly to the panel so the dirt doesn't get underneath. Even just having heavy layers of LSP along the edges can help immensely.

mnewxcv- That piece is so small and seemingly easy to position correctly that I'd be tempted to just strip it off and replace it with a new one.
