What am I doing wrong?

Seeking the perfect shine
I've QEW'd my car twice in the last few weeks. To be completely truthful, I haven't had it out in BRIGHT DIRECT sunlight in a while. Today, I noticed some fairly significant micro-marring on my fenders and hood....probably other places, but I didn't see.

I wash it with QEW and a sheepskin mitt.......rinsing in a separate bucket. I dry with a grey Waffle Weave Microfiber (or 2). I usually use 2 gal of wash solution and 2 gal of rinse water. I put a tad more than the recommended 4 capfuls in the 2 gallons of wash. I also add a capful in the rinse water. I heard it helps get the dirt out of the mitt.

I hardly use any more pressure than the weight of the mitt when I wash.

Any suggestions?

Although QEW can be a great product I recognize the risk of the lack of rinsing with a hose. The only suggestions I can make are to use several sheepskin mitts while washing with this, switch to a fresh more often than you might think necessary. While drying, I spray QD on the panel first to act as a lubricating barrier between the ww mf and the finish just as an added precaution. Also, try to never rush through the washing process.

Well, do you know of anything that would fade the scratches I have, now? Would applying a 3rd layer of WG sealant help with it?

I'm not CRAZY about having to polish the girl again so soon :dunno

There are certain products that people should not be afraid to use more of than they think is necessary. QEW is one of those products. Use 3 gallons of QEW solution (3 oz. QEW) instead of your two and make sure the mitt and panel stay plenty wet. Rinse the mitt several times per panel or as BillD said, use several mitts. Lastly, do not apply significant pressure. Let the weight of the mitt/solution do the cleaning.

I QEW'ed my car last night. I am pretty confident that it doesn't induce swirling anymore than regular washing because of the ample lube and changing/rinsing of mitts.

Since you have not had your car out in the direct sunlight for awhile I would guess that your marring is an accumulation of all the washes/paint care you've done up until recently. QEW is actually pretty safe IMO.

Just polish up the areas where you've got that marring and seal her up. No one is 100% safe from marring on a daily driver NO MATTER WHAT.

Yep, I would agree with Bill. This was my first year trying QEW. The only thing I do different than Bill is to use Spray & Wipe to help lubricate when drying the panel rather than a regular QD. S & W seems to add even more lubrication and also adds a touch more cleaning to the process.

Hope this helps.

ITS GOT TO BE FROM QEW. I would only do that after a fresh wash. Many people think its a alternative to washing but not IMO. I have a black car and will only quck detail it after its been washed or sprayed off.

You could always use a separte mit for the bottom of your car because that should have the most dirt on it. Then use another mit for the top or just completly rinse the mit. IMO no matter how much solution and lube you have in your bucket if there is dirt on the car it needs to be sprayed off and if it gets on the mit and you start washing it well.. you know the results.
