What am I doing wrong? Take a look. . .

I'm using Menzerna's IP on an orange light cutting pad.

This is what I'm seeing:

1. The first time I go over it the product seems to disappear.

2. Then it starts to dust.

3. I squirted some QD spray on the pad so it wouldn't dust but then it did this:

That clumped stuff is impossible to get off with the orbital. I had to spray it and remove it by hand. What am I doing wrong? :(

How much product are you using.

What speed setting on what machine.

Is it a new or used pad.

was this the first pannel on that pad.

Looks to me like your using way to much product.

I use 2-3 pea/dime sized drops per pannel and always keep an eye on your pad if it becomes gummed up to clean it or grab a new pad.

Ok, here's a little more info:

1. I only have one orange pad. Need to get more.

2. This is probably after doing the roof, hood, door and front 1/4 panel.

3. I usually draw an X on the pad with the product before doing a panel.

4. To spread I put the PC on 3.

5. To cut I put it on 5.

I wish I could remember if this happened when I first started using the pad that day or after I used it for awhile...

Thanks.

I dont like putting the polish on the pad, gets gummed up too fast. I also feel that an X is too much polish. Try only using 3 small drops on the paint.

Sounds like the pad is saturated with too much product. You need to clean the pad and, as mentioned, use a few dots per section. Keep cleaning the pad so that it can work properly.

I agree that it's too much product. However, the OP mentioned this:

Even if the pad is saturated, howcome the product disappears right away? Using pea sized blots would even make this concern worse. I pointed it out because I have the same problem.

Your pad has too much product on it and it causing the product to gum up. Take a spur tool to the pads or just put a new pad on and you're good to go. I usually just throw on a new pad if this ever happens as I can't be bothered to waste time with the existing pad.

I personally use 2 normally. Rarely will I use 3. I find the more pads I have on hand with me, the more I will use. Not sure if that's a bad thing, but I guess working with clean pads is never a bad thing. I look back when I first started having 1 of each colour, I don't know how I managed to do a car with just 1 pad. lol

I have had strange reactions to SIP on BMW paint as well. Most panels were fine but ocasionsally I would get that dry gum up shown in your pictures, I couldnt really figure it out either.

Good. I'm glad I'm not the only one. :LOLOL

I think I'm going to move over to Poorboy's products. They're supposed to be much easier to work with.
