I've been reading the posts and going through the archive for a few weeks now.
What a great bunch of guys with extremely helpful tips and suggestions.
I have always taken a keen interest in detailing but lacked the knowledge that many have here. For the last 5 years here is what I had been doing:
1. Wash - Mothers soap with 2 cotton terry blocks (i.e. similar to a mitt) with the 2 bucket approach. Starting at the top of the car and working my way down.
2. Drying - Many cloth diapers
3. Cleaning/Polish - Turtle Wax Bug/Tar and #9 SMR, using lint free cloth (polish by hand)
4. Wax - #26 - Using lint free cloth (by hand)
5. Removal - Plush terry towels
6. FI - Touch-up's
I always hated using #9 as I found it quite difficult to remove. Generally, I was pleased with the paste wax but I had a feeling something better must be out there as I found it didn't last very long.
I would polish/wax a quarter of the car at a time about every 2-3 weeks. Thereby waxing the entire car 3 times a year and not taking hours to do (remember #9 by hand is real pain for me!).
I was just getting ready to start claying.
Now that I found this place, I can finally feel like I will finally be doing a complete job:
1st. - I'll ABC
2nd - I'll clay
3rd - 3M SMR for dark (Finesse It II/III if required)
4th - Klasse AIO / SG
5th - Top off if required with Blitz
6th - Meguair's Final Inspection for touch up-s
I have a Black 92 Cavalier RS that unfortunately has been in 2 major accidents - both by my Father :-(
Since I am planning on up to a BMW330 next year - car bonus at work
I want to perfect my technique on this car!
The decision to go with Klasse over Zanio is not definitive yet but leaning towards Klasse. I will be going with either a black or silver coloured Bimmer.
The other thing was I never really bad too much attention to my tires. I don't like the wet jet black look. My previous technique was to use "Wisk" full strength to wash the tires and no protectant. I'll try out the 303 and see how it looks.
I have a couple of questions and I'll post them shortly.
Once again, thanks everyone.
