Placed an order with AutoGeek a couple weeks ago for a new FLEX backing plate and an Optimum Spray gun.
I have had my FLEX for a couple years now and the backing plate was showing signs of wear. Velcro coming off all the way around which meant I was shooting pads all over the place when I least expected it.
Put the new one on it was like like night and day! Pads didn't go anywhere and, the most suprising difference, there was a lot less vibration!
I had been using a cheapy paint spray gun from Harbor Freight for a couple years for applying OB on tires, wells and engine compartments. It finally gave up so I thought I would try the Optimum Spray Gun. A little pricey.....but, so far, worth it.
Had some issues getting it working. Lots of air but no product. It came in a plastic bad with no instructions but, how hard could it be right? Called AutoGeek for help and everything they said to try didn't work. They offered to exchange it for me but that wasn't going to do me any good this weekend. On a whim I called Optimum, on a Saturday, at 11PM PST.......and someone answered!!! Could not believe it! David answerd the phone and was very nice and helpful. He had me try the same things that Autogeek had me try with no luck again. I was talking to him about why there was no suction through the feed tube and I turned the spray nozzle out and instantly had suction. Hooked up the feed tube to a glass of water and voila.....there was product sprayage!! WOOHOO!!!
Turns out they ship the spray gun with the spray nozzle all the way shut and you have to turn it out to get your desired spray pattern. I was very happy with the customer service and the fact that I got to use a $40 spray gun.
It also turned out that it works perfectly. You can adjust it as fine or thick as you want and it lays down a nice even coat of product. The old spray gun I was using was kept an 60psi but they recommended using 90lbs psi. Worked perfectly!!
I am still amazed at how to simple little pieces of equipment could make detailing so much more enjoyable!!
