Shampoo was Megs Gel or Zymol Bathe, now Einzett Perls or reg wash.

Polish/Cleaner was Zymol HD Cleanse, now Menzerna FP and IP.

Wax was Zymol Carbon, Creme and Japon, now is Menzerna FMJ.

QD was Zymol Spritz? or #34, now is Menzerna, Sonus or #34 still.

I feel like such a noob back then, this site has taught me so much! When I first learned of Autopia from audiworld.com, I started out with P21S products, evolved to Klasse, now Menzerna.

Wash: Dawn lol :soscared:

Wax: Megs Cleaner Wax (red bottle), Dupont Rain Dance, Liquid Glass (still have the stuff if anyone wants it)

Tires: Armor All (old formula..used it by the gallons)

QD: Megs Quick Detail (red bottle)

Wash: Dawn

Wax: Meguiar's Gold Class Liquid (old version)

Tires: Armor All Detailer's Advantage

QD: "What the heck is a QD?...never heard of it" lol...I never used these products in my pre-Autopia days

I was pretty much ignorant when it came to caring for my old Mazda 626. I would pretty much hit the "free automatic car wash" after I filled up my gas tank (back in the day when they were free).

However as soon as I got my new Mazda 6, I made a conscious decision to take care of her. I bow down to the knowledge available here at Autopia.

MCA

Wash: Wesley's (the blue stuff)

Polish/Wax: Liquid Glass originally, then moved to Zaino

Tires: E1 Wet (some very shiney silicon stuff)

QD: Meguiars Final Inspection or Zaino (Z??)

Wash=Turtle Wax (which really isn't bad or anything)

Wax=Armor or turtle wax paste wax. I think I used KIT at one point too.

Tires and dash=no brainer...old school armor all, later replaced with some tire foam (not on the dash, just tires)

QD=gotta agree with MCA on this one.....!

But, the bottom line is, cheap products or not, I always have kept good care of my cars.

Wash: QEW

Polishing & Waxing: Meguiars 80 series topped with #26 liquid

Tires and interior: Meguiars #40

QD: Meguiars #34

Wash: Dawn

Wax: Zymol Cleaner Wax

Wheels: Anything that said "Wheels" and "Spray on, hose off"

Tires: No Touch-style foams.

Wow.

*edit* I didn't notice the QD category--that didn't exist in my pre-Autopia days. When I list four products, that means I used four products since I don't count the quarter blaster vacuum as a product.

Wash: Gold Class (still use)

sealant/wax: Liquid Glass, #26 liquid

tires: Arm & Hammer foam

QD: Meg's quik detailer

Wash: Mothers Gold

Wheel Cleaner: Meguiars or EO A2Z or Aluminum Wheel Cleaner

Polish:Megs Deep Crystal, Mothers Scratch Remover, 3m PI-II

FC RC, SMR, IHG, P21s multi surface restorer

Sealant and Wax: Liquid Glass and Blitz Wax

Tires: MSLT, No Touch

QD:Meg's Quik Detailer, #34 FI

:up :up

Wash: AutoGlym Shampoo, before that dish wash liquid

Wax: AutoGlym Super Resin (every now and then)

Wheels: AutoGlym Clean Wheels

Tires: Nothing

QD: Never heard of prior to Autopia

As you can see, I was very much an AutoGlym kind of guy, nothing against AG, as I still have a stash in my kit, but after Autopia and learning stuff from others on here, I know that I'm a few pounds (dollars) lighter :D

Wax: Meg GC and Mothers cleaner wax

Glaze: Meg #7 and #9

Polish: 3m

Wash: whatever was on sale or dish washing liquids. :o

Towels: old towels of any color:shocked:

Tire and vinyl care: Armor ALL Original / Kit

That's for sure!!!!!!

Wash: Autoglym Shampoo or Megs Gold Class

Wax: Autoglym Super Resin and Various Zymol Waxes

Wheels: Autoglym Clean Wheels

Tires: Autoglym Tyre Dressing

QD: Megs Quick Detailer

Towels: Mutton Cloth

Wash: Dawn, or Blue Coral if I felt adventurous.

Wax: Black Magic liquid.

Wheels: Dawn, same bucket as the paint. Used a really bad brush and Black Magic wheel cleaner.

Tires: Westley's and Black Magic tire dressing.

QD: Never used one. The Black Magic stuff I had kept streaking so I didn't bother.

Towels: Terry cotton.

THEN VS THIS WEEKEND:

Then (On my white 1992 Civic)

-Palmolive soap (the green stuff) using the peanut sponge, and drying with old tees

-no polishing, I had no swirls anyway cuz I didn't see them

-STP protectant (because armorall was too expensive) on dash and tires and my bra :shocked

-The Wax Shop wax used once and I didn't notice a difference. Applied using 'The More Is Better' theory..

Now (1994 Integra LS w/ new paint)

-NXT car wash (with chenille mitts and two-bucket method and WW MFs to dry)

-Megs #83 and #80 for polishing via PC (got SSR1 & SSR2.5 to try)

-AIO / SGx2 (the epitome of 'Less is Best", 4* UGE for QD

& 10x the effort and time :D

Wash: Megs Gold Class

Polishes: Presta Chroma/Strata

Wax: Zymol Cleaner & Megs Gold Class paste

Towels: Beach Towels

Tires: A2Z (still use) & MSLT

Leather and Vinyl: Lexol & ArmorALL

QD: Eagle One

Wash: Kitten Wash and Wax

Polish/Wax: Kitten polishing wax

Dash/Tyres: Armor All or tyre black paint on special occassions ;)

Drying: Chamois

Towels: Cotton rags

How far I have progressed! Funny thing is that I go home and my Dad still uses these kinds of products! :) At least he keeps his cars clean - not exactly swirl free - but above the average, thats for sure.

Pre Autopia,

Wash, any car shampoo

Wax 1st AG super resin then Megs gold class

Tyres, nothing then megs high gloss endurance

Wheels AG clean wheels

Dried with chamois

Post autopia... lots of US based stuff.. but I`ll not go there in this thread.

Wash : Tunnel :rofl

Wax : Mothers......

Thats it :o

I never took the time..... of course I did start looking around long before I discovered Autopia, but it was not with any real system that I cleaned, polished, *sealed*, waxed my cars. Its was completely hit or miss due to product confusion mainly. Product claims can be very confusing with just so-so results. I am really happy to have discovered this site. Oh, and after visiting other sites I am relieved to not have discovered some of them first ! I love the anti spam orientation of this site, spam being the biggest culprit in spreading this lack of knowledge concerning process IMO. Read the ads and you will see the misuse of terms, etc- This does not help anybody learn how to do a proper detail, and mostly discourages folks from trying after spending the time and effort only to be disapointed...... :sosad

How many "covers swirls" blurbs can you find in ads ?
