We've got a Diesel Spill!!!!! Suggestions...

detailz

a step ahead
Haven't encountered this one in a long time and was hoping to get some feedback. A lady dropped off a Tahoe, in which she spilled diesel fuel in the rear cargo area. Other than shampooing out the spill, any other suggestions to remove the remaining residue and smell? Curious as to what alternatives there may be out there, other than using the extractor, ozone and masking the odor till it evaporates. I will tell you she cut the rear carpet in the middle left to right to try in get it out herself.

Open to suggestions

The rear cargo area in them trucks are seperate from the carpet, meaning its very easy to replace.

Personly thats what i would do. I've never had to deal with a diesel spill but i can't imagine its an easy clean up.

I would figure 50 bucks for a new peice of carpet for the back and an hour to replace it and wipe up the residue that managed to sink thru it.

Other than that i would think the only other way is to use a extractor, enzyme cleaner, ozone machine etc.

This is exactly how we are tackling it, hope it is enough. I told her not to expect 100% and if necessary we will set an odor bomb to mask it till the fuel dissapates. I am not sure if she wants to just replace the carpet and padding, that would certainly improve it. Thanks for your help

If you come to blows with replacement I have used these guys with allot of luck and they are cheap and great quality...My neighbor did his Chevy Tahoe with one and it looks as good as the OEM..IMO

Thanks for the info. She is coming to pick it up in a couple of hours. At that point we will decide the next course of action. I have already mentionned to her the possibility of replacement.

I just looked and you can buy just the back half for the cargo area...looks like about 100 bucks...seems like a cheap fix...good luck
