Wetsanding and PC Cleanup?

JaCkaL829

it was my first time...
Hello everyone,

As the title says, I'm looking at doing some wetsanding, and following up with a PC. I'm just wondering what is the maximum number I can use for sandpaper, to safely be able to cleanup the hazing with a PC? I have a PC with a bunch of different cutting pads, and I have decent polishes (M105, Optimum polishes, HT Heavy Cut). Reason I ask is my black Acura got scratched up this past winter from a snowblower. It looks like my car was keyed. I'd like to fill the scratches with a touchup pen, than try my best to wetsand the touchup and buff it out with my PC. I'm thinking the most I can do is 2500 or 3000 with the sandpaper.

Let me know what you guys think, thanks!

That'd be the most and even with a PC it'll take some time. I just did this on a hood of a Town and Country. A high speed would if been much better.

JohnnyDaJackal- My honest "what you guys think..." response is to think twice about wetsanding.

Even though it seems like a simply, straightforward process, I bet that most people who try it botch things up at least the first time, and in a pretty serious way.  Oops, that was a poor choice of words, but I'll leave it unedited as it might get the intensity of my concern across.  Very, very easy to open a real nasty can of worms; I'd recommend trying Dr ColorChips or at least Langka first and see if you can get satisfactory results that way.

And I sure don't mean that as any kind of slam at you, I'm assuming that you're a bright sensible guy who's gonna go about this properly.

But anyhow...if you do decide to wetsand and then correct via PC, I'd get some 3-4" pads.  I can't do it with larger pads no matter what I try, and yeah I've discussed this (directly) with the guys who are the True Experts; it's not as easy as one might think, at least not when using a PC (the GG, let alone my Flex 3401, let *alone* the rotaries can make it go a whole lot easier).
