Wet Vac Reccomendations?

I am looking into getting a wet vac. I intend to use Megs APC 4:1 with an upholstery brush to clean carpets, mats, and upholstery for my own use (I am definitely not going professional). So I would like to know what you all would consider minimum requirements for one: HP, and SP mostly. Any brands I should stay away from? I am doing this on a budget (the more I save in one place, the quicker I can get my DA machine!) and I don't want to go overboard with the wet vac as I am using it in an apartment garage (don't want too much noise and not sure how much load I can safely apply to the provided outlet).

You can also comment on my cleaning proceedure, I'm still a newbie.

:thx

A lotta detailers use the Ridgid WD4050 (I think that's the model), which is small (1-2 gallons) and very powerful. I use the 12 gallon version (same horsepower), only because it was on sale for $30 on Black Friday last year.

I know you said you were on a budget so this one might be too much but I have a Ridgid WD1450. It's $100. I love it, it's quite too. I can use it and talk at almost a regular level. The suction is amazing too. My buddy was over one day working on my house and he used it, a week later he had the same one. I'm sure you could get by with one of the cheaper models so you can get a DA sooner. I'm not sure if the cheaper Ridgid's are built the same way, but it would be worth checking out. I got mine from Home Depot, not sure if anyone else carries them or not.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd be willing to pony up $100. I know the old addage "you get what you pay for" all too well. I want something that will do the job and last. I just don't need something too crazy or too professional (extractor). And I have to get the wife's approval.

Thanks!
