wet sanding

I was curious how many include Wet sanding in their steps of detailing...



In which cases would you go upon this step? and what grit do you use 2000?
 
Rednsxe, what's motivating you to try wet-sanding? Have you used polishes and compounds and found they still don't take care of your scratches/swirls/oxidation/whatever? I.e., what's the problem you're trying to fix, and what strategies have you tried so far?
 
The reason why i brought up this topic is because i met a detailer in my area and he actually included wetsanding in his procedure in detailing one of my panels. I just find that pretty weird because wet sanding really grinds down the clear coat. What he did was he went over it very lightly a few times on that finish. Then went down to compounding and then the regular polishing. I removed a lot of swirls but just want to find out more about "wet sanding" in general and when it should be used. It seems to me that he uses this technique every once in a while in his detailing steps.
