Welcome YAMABOB!
Thank you

Welcome. What brings you in to the detailing addiction ?
Been doing this since `78 when I was hired to detail a dealers ( that would be a car dealer by the way) private collection. Started painting race bikes in `83 and naturally detailing what wasn`t painted. Haven`t slowed down since. Then I met Ron in a detail forum. What little free time I had was instantly gone to keep up with the Ron`s. ;) Never been happier

yamabob- Hey, I`m late to this party, but "if Ron introduces you, that`s enough for me" and and all that. It sounds like you and I date to about the same starting point for this stuff (Dealership work in `78...check..).

Who`s Ron?
Ah the good old day`s of rotary and wool pads with 3M and Ardex. At least around these parts. Thanks for the welcome!
And Ron rocks no matter what forum!!

Welcome, yamabob!
Since you are an "experienced" (AKA older) detailer, you`ve seen a lot of changes in detailing products, equipment, and methodologies. Someone once asked me what is the biggest change in detailing I`ve seen. Microfibers? Surface cleaning clays? Foam polishing pads? Long-throw DA polishers? Sealants? SMAT abrasives? Coatings? While all of these are, indeed, changes in detailing, NOTHING has had the impact that the internet and this forum of like-minded detailing enthusiasts I call fellow Autopians has had (sounds redundant, doesn`t it!) on my detailing exploits. Where else can I learn about new detailing products, equipment, and methodologies (AKA how-to`s) along with opinions and judgments based on their experience. That, and the ability to buy almost anything detailing-related over the internet.
There are a lot things detailers like and some they do not like. And we all have our favorite products. Mine is mostly a "Meguiar`s thing", but that`s what I grew up with, seeing it was available at the car parts or auto paint supply stores locally (before the internet). Most detailers, though, I think have a pretty eclectic and varied product supply from various car-care manufacturers, because of this internet thing (see it, learn about it , buy it) and wanting to try it out for ourselves. So this is one way to introduce yourself: what detailing products do you use and/or like?

By the way, I am the "nosy one" who asks a lot of sometimes impertinent questions (whatever that means) because "inquiring minds want to know". You may also see me refer to myself as "Captain Obvious", but to explain that.. well , see the (redundant) comment above. Hope you are at least smiling after reading this!
Again, welcome.

Thanks Lonnie. I would agree with the internet being the biggest change. Exchange of ideas and products along with willingness to try new things is a major benefit. Some like to stick to their brand(s) and poo-poo people who like to challenge a product to do or be the new best thing (which will never happen).
For me to list the products I`ve used and like would almost be fruitless to an extent. Scholl,Sonax , Menzerna polishes are my go to brands with Menzerna most used. A little more of a pain to remove the residue but I like the finish with my technique/skillset. I`ve used Adam`s -Meq`s - 3M, Ardex as well but no longer use them. LSP`s would vary much greater as to whom I`m doing work for -their need`s and budget. I could narrow it down to Swissvax for `nuba , Backfire for sealant and Gyeon Mohs for coating`s. I`ve just really started into coating and prefer to play with the paint more often than needed, so this is something I only really do if asked.
I could bore everyone even more with the toppers-booster`s- detailing sprays but will take pity on all for the sake of making friends and not enemies ( or more enemies anyway)
Thanks for the welcome!!
