Went and looked @ the truck today

Looks like the paint will be a close to perfect match from what I can see in the shop. Hopefully when it gets out in the sun it will be a good match.

I asked about how soon can I wax the newly painted panels: As soon as I want since it's cured allready. I would suggest wait a few weeks and let it gas-out before using a sealer/carnuba"

I will most likely wait until the summer to wax just before teh bugs start to come out. Pics to come soon.

Good move to wait to wax. I've been through this with body shops as well. Some insist their oven "cures" the paint. Yeah, it gives the curing process a good kick start, but it continues outgassing for months. Another guy posted here just a couple weeks ago how the repainted sections on his two vehicles swirled so much easier than the rest and he admits they were waxed almost right away. Yes, his paint job was baked at the shop, too. There's a difference between drying and curing.

Here's the post that's become the standard around here for curing times.

The wording above reflects the title of the thread.

There are a few sealants that claim to be safe. Zaino claims to be safe within a week and FK1 says to go ahead and apply 2180 within a few days. Use your own judgement. Zaino claims the paint is cured within a week (I respectfully disagree based on everything else I've seen on the subject) and FK1 claims to allow outgassing.

I am good friends with the owner of the shop, I mentioned this to him and he kind of seemed reluctant to believe it. Regardless I'm going to wait.

I forgot the brand of the clear he says he was going to use but I believe the # was D5500? It supposedly runs around $150 / gallon. I could care less how much it costs ---- I told him if there is something better than buy it and we'll work something out.

In the mean time while it's curing: The paint will be done sometime next week so I figure at least May before I give it a good coat of FMJ. That's when the bugs are starting to get bad here also. What can I use to give it some protection? Will Menzerna Glaze work?

I also agree on the swirling. I had the tailgate painted and waxed it right away. It's a B**tch to keep the swirls out. It's like nothing I've ever seen.
