Well so much for my scratch free finish :(

If you remember I spent a solid 4 days detailing the TT and after menz IP, blackfire polish and BFII with the PC it was 100% swirl and scratch (straight line marring that gives that holographic effect) free...

since then I've used a large car duster twice to remove the layer of dust that settled on it... the last time I QD'd with the blackfire spray and autopia CBT. I didnt press down or use any pressure with either the duster or the CBT and I made sure all the dust was off before QD'ing.... and now in the sunlight on the hood there is major marring :( You know how you get that holographic swirl marks after someone inexperienced tackles your car with a rotary buffer? Well these are the same only the are straight and pretty much only in the direction of the airflow (cause thats how I dusted and QD'd)

I dont really see them anywhere else but on the hood?

So I'm going to assume that my use of the duster and the QD spray is what caused this :(

did I do something wrong??? should I just not even bother to remove the dust anymore??

this sucks :(

what kind of duster did you use. ? its better to just wait and wash your car then QD it. The duster could have caused it but probley not sometimes you dont see the holographic effect until certain very wierd angles on the car and the direction of the sun, So they could have been there.

Are you using the California Car Duster? This shouldn't cause any marring if done correctly.

Also, did you take you car out in the sun and view the work after the original polish? It could be that not all the swirls were removed, and you just hid them with BF, and now when you bring it out in sunlight, you see them.

BluHeaven- Sorry to hear about what happened. Although SOME people have great success with the CCD and QDing, I'm with Fr0zen on this- just wait until you can wash the car. I've tried the CCD/QD bit, and like you I was VERY careful. Still got marring. The only safe thing for many of us to do is live with the dust until you can wash it. I know that's not what you want to hear...

The good news is that with the BF on your paint, the marring MIGHT not be as bad as you think (some of it might be in the BF). When you can use the garage again, give the car a good, thorough wash with a stronger than usual wash solution. See where you have marring, and do the IP bit on those areas, then reapply the BF (I'd give the whole car a quick coat). I really don't think it will be NEARLY as big a job as what you did last time.

True...I forgot to mention that I saw some marring on my wife's red Hyundai the other night, and topped the hood with another coat of SG and then some PUPP, and now most of the marring is gone. So it looks like the marring was mostly in the SG which was on the hood. :) So take heart....this might just be your chance to apply more BF.

Thanks guys.

I have the duster from Griots... we have a california carduster sitting here and it doesnt work that well for some reason??

I'm hoping the marring is mostly in the blackfire as well... there are three layers of it on there!!

I'll just live with the dust then. Thanks guys!

Try Putting some more protectant on there sometimes I get scratchs in the S100 itself. :Then i just go over with a coat and its gone try that.

I too am concerned about QDing. Do you think it would be safe to use if used only after washing?

Well I am not a fan of QD(no particular reason...mostly having to wash tons of towels so often...I already have enough)....

What I have been trying (just to see where my marks come from) is to use the CA Car duster in a different direction from the windflow. That is the bummer about doing everything in the same direction...you don't know if it is from the sponge when you washed, the CCD or the QD.

So I do the CCD in one dir and I should do the wash in another direction. If they don't leave anything, no harm. If they do, then I will know and I can stop using them(or change technique) and I know which one caused it.

Sorry to hear about the Blu.

Most of the car duster have I seen usually are quite oily in the beginning. It may just be an oily haze you're seeing. I know this might sound foolish as you've probably already tried it but have you tried washing the hood and see if it goes away?

QD's work great after a wash. Just make sure you really do get the car CLEAN and use something VERY soft, like a high quality MF. If I have the time, I QD after almost every wash.
