GOT PREP?
Well, this car was quite the challenge. TONS of dead paint and a $500 paint job to start with. I made the most of it. :)

The process that I used to restore the paint is as follows:

Wash

Dry

Apply Hi-Temp heavy cut compound with a twisted wool pad (first I tried knitted wool, but it loaded too fast) via rotary @2000 RPM’s

Apply Meguiars #83 dual action cleaner polisher via rotary and a foam pad @ 1200 RPM’s

Apply Meguiars #80 speed glaze via the PC and polishing pad @ speed 5.

Apply two thin coats of Meguiars NXT

All products removed with MF

Tires dressed with NOTOUCH seriously WET

did you have to use several of the same foam pads for this car? my friend has an old 1st gen s-10...same color...with the factory paint job that is just as faded and oxidized. i wasnt going to charge him if i try to bring back the paint, but i was going to have him pay for materials. i dont want to have to drop 50+ on pads haha.

also...what are foam pads used for generally?

Holy crap !!!!!! :soscared:

Did they paint the car with a spray can???? Geez..the cost of the detail alone will go towards new pads.

Awesome work !!!!!! Its a Xtreme Detail entry for sure.... :xyxthumbs

What an improvement. You sure did remove a LOT of paint. It's gonna be fun washing those pads now.

You should enter this into the extreme detail contest. Bookmarked.

Thanks guys, I appreciae the kind words!!!

Nah, I don't think I'll enter it. IMO, it would only be extreme if I had done the interior, exterior, and engine. This was just a 5 hour exterior only. Thanks though!!!

tommyortom, could you see the pic of all the pads that I used? Yep, I used multiple foam and wool pads. If you do this for your friend I would look into having about 8 foam polishing pads and a few wool pads. I am assuming you will be doing this via rotary? If via PC you should plan on needing about 10-12 foam polishing pads.

6][9, I used pads from a local supplier, they are just private labeled buff-n-shine though.

OK now put the plates back on the car that you started with. Are you sure that this is the same car?

Just kidding!! Nice look to a $500.00 paint job. With five hours invested in that job I am amazed. Work like that should be commended. :woot:

Wow that looks WAAAAAY better!

I never understand why people buy expensive wheels and put cheap crap tires on them. Was this a AWD turbo or just the base model Talon?

Oh BTW the "56K NO" part of your title definitely applies here. I opened this thread, then vacuumed my whole apartment and came back to see that it was ALMOST done loading! lol

Wow that is a real nice job in bringing that car back from the dead. keep up the good work. :dance can not imagine the clean up on that mess you had left over. looking forward to viewing more of your details :up

Some people are house-poor. Others are car-poor. The owner of the Talon was "rim-poor". :chuckle:

Obviously not into handling.
