Well i am finally going to try my rotary.

I have had it for almost a year but was chicken to try it.....the rotary is a cheap harborfreight unit but untill i get comfortable with it....thats it.I have used the pc for years and the flex 3401 for a couple months but i feel its time to step up.

Most of the fears of the rotary are gone from reading a ton of posts about it and watching vid's of the useage but i still need to ask.

I have a hood that has quite a few different highs and lows to it and am worried that i will screw it up.......so here is a few pics and should i be worried or is there something i should look out for when doing this hood.

Well good luck on the rotary challenge. It's really not that hard to use, you just have to practice with it, a lot. I started out with the rotary years ago and practiced on my own and haven't burned any paint yet. I also have a 3401 but really never used it since I prefer the rotary more than anything. It's just so much fun!



Sometimes I laugh when people come around all wide eyed and say to me I hope you know what your doing!!



Here is a little guide that you may check out on before you take the rotary for a spin.

+2 Your car has lots of nice and large flat panels like the doors and parts of the hood that would be great to try out the rotary. On the more curvy areas use the flex.

The very fact that you (the OP) is aware and concerned about the high ridges is a good sign. I think you will be fine using the rotary.

So i quess i should not come close to the high points of the hood with the rotary.Would you think that i should tape off the high points only and use the rotary for the rest and use the flex for just the spots that i taped off.
 
tape up trim around glass, lights, mirrors basically any areas where you don't want to hit with the machine. I would tape up any rubber/plastic trim that might stain or burnish if hit with and machine. That molding on you roof; I would tape for fear of staining
