(im taking the carpet out cause i am dyeing it black and i want it to be real clean before doing so!) also is it possible to use house cleaning product for this? keep in mind im dyeing it after the cleanup!

:dunno, but the manufacturer of the dye you are planning to use should have some suggestions.
Keep in mind that some carpet protection products like Scotch Guard can have a negative effect on the dye being able to do its job.
When I had the carpet redyed in my old Corvette, whether it had ever had Scotch Guard applied was their first question.

bah its just a generic spray dye from canadian tire !

only thing written on the can is make sure area to be dyed is clean.

If you're removing the carpet from the car, then I say "hose 'er down." I did this with my cousin's car a few years back. Since it was out of the car, I was able to use a pretty strong APC and PLENTY of water for rinsing.

The hardest part about cleaning automotive carpeting inside the car is proper rinsing. There are so many things you have to worry about not getting wet, it really limits what you can do.

Outside of the car is a whole new ball game. You can spray APC & rinse water to your heart's content. You can even haul it down to the self-serve place and give it a good pressure wash.

Miscellaneous Thoughts

Make sure the back of the carpet is dry before re-installing (trapped moisture = rust :eek .

I didn't experience shrinkage, but it is always a possibility when cleaning & drying the whole carpet. Perhaps you should make sure the back side is dry and the carpeted side is still a bit damp when you re-install to minimize the chance of shrinkage before the carpet is fastened down.

With the carpet & seats out, this is a great time to clean the actual floor and check for any rust issues, particularly around seams, door edges etc and eliminate them.

just a warning. i have tried that carpet dye from canadian tire and even though it says it will never wear away, i found it still did. don't set you expectations too high so you don't get disappointed in case it doesn't work. it may cost a lot more but one option is aftermarket carpet. there is a few companies that make oem look a like carpets for vehicles. might be a way to go.
