my dad used his big greasy hand to close my trunk while moving my car in the drive way (after a lecture :)) I told him that he should have just left it (it was closed just not secured).

if you haven't read this post on how people close their doors here it is http://autopia-carport.com/forum/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=2154 , but how do you close your trunks? I use my sleeve if I have one, otherwise I pull from the inside and grab the "almost handle" and push that down.

Anyone have the trunk handle / license plate thingy ? (pics)

Dont have a trunk! Makes life simpler!

But for the tailgate I push under neath the handle which is somewhat hidden.

When I did have a car I would grab my towel under driver seat and shut it using that. Then return towel to positon undeer seat neatly folded of course and then rolled.

Hope that things are well with you! My car has a pretty cool little emergency tool kit in the roof of the trunk, which provides me with a nice little "handle" to pull on when closing the trunk.

Other than that, I just carry a clean MF towel in the glove box (in a ziplock bag), and wipe off any finger prints.

I close my trunk by slightly holding the grandprix lettering that appears across the lower part of the trunk. That way I don't get any finger prints on the trunk.

steve,

i close my trunk by pushing on the licence plate, and only the licence plate.

i figure that i'd rather get finger prints or smudges on that than the black paint.

Unfortunately, 3rd Generation Maximas are not equipped with nifty little handles and gizmos to make closing the trunk fingerprint-free. But what I might start doing is pushing down using the center reflector panel or pull that down.

BMW trunks are hard to close because of those air-springs that don't cave into the trunk. So they added a handle on the <em class='bbc'>inside[/i] of the carpeted trunk door. You need some practice (one time my hand got hit, OWWW!) to get it right.

I find non-luxury Japanese (Nissan, Honda, etc.) cars to have the easiest to close trunks. Just lightly push it down, and it goes down.

Ouch. I know what you mean with those little air-pocket looking handles. My wife's got a 330i and it's really hard to swing down on the handles hard enough so that it'll shut, but not so hard that it'll slam...all the while you have to remember to get your hand out of there as fast as you can or you'll be in for a lot of pain.

Boy am I glad I'm not alone in this topic. Although I don't have a trunk and GM gave me big girthy textured handles to close my door with, I cringe when someone uses the palm of there hand when they close my door. And if they slam it with there palm it's like a knife in my side. Ohhhhhhhhhh

Depending on the person I sometimes do lecture em out on the proper way to close my doors.

1st. Use the handle

2nd. Don't touch the paint

3rd. Do not slam the damn door. ( I don't wan't rattles n crap)

Think clean

Think rattle free

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

To close my rear tailgate/hatch, I just push on the handle that sticks away from the door and is painted flat black. If I'm wearing good clothes and the truck is in need of a washing I dont care putting my FINGERS along the bottom and just pulling it down.

And slamming is a nono

Yep, thats what I mean. And even if you don't use those "dangerous" handles, and push down on the trunk lid, you need to use a lot of force or it will spring back up.

So there ARE good things about those Chrysler/Dodge power-trunks.

The new S-Class MB's have an option for the trunk lid, which keeps all fingers off the trunk. The little option is about $500, but you get a nifty little button on the inside of the trunk that closes the trunk automatically.

So the question is, when are these little options going to be available on other cars!

First 3 to 6 months, carefully grab lower edge at license plate and gently close.

6 month to a year, place palm on top edge of trunk and push it down.

1 to 2 years, just slam the damned thing down, going to pass in on to one of my junior sales reps and get me a new ride.

Start over again!

From the pic in the door thread.

Here's a guy who uses the mf-mitt to close his hood :D

My ideal weight is probably around 220 (6'-4") (I haven't seen that in YEARS!). The pattern for the last 10 years or so, has been that I gain pounds in the winter, then lose it in the spring and summer, then gain in winter again!!!

So let the lifestyle/eating habits change begin....:Dancing Dot:

The last time I did the "South Beach Diet" (5 years ago) I lost 80 pounds!! Then I got cancer, went on chemo and gained it all back in a year.

It's an excellent nutrition plan and I'm going to try to stick with it like I did last time!

I started last week and I've lost 10.

Anyone care to join in?

South Beach is the diet for life....I always recommend that if sum one mentions diets. The other thing is that its gourmet food....there is food prep and sum efforts required in the kitchen....but I like to cook... this diet makes anyone a better cook...do you agree with that ?
