Weekend’s mini-projects: I found a use for CG5050 !!

I haven’t cleaned the bike since last year and it was spattered from a ride I took a month ago. I had the pressure washer out and got motivated.

I ended up trying the Eagle 1 Etching Wheel cleaner on the block and a few other places. I had purchased the product specifically for this task. This bike is 25 yrs. old and the uncoated aluminum looks like crap in some places. Other areas it’s still quite good. The Eagle 1 product wasn’t meeting expectations. A few areas showed a little improvement, some areas may look worse…so I quit.

P21S gel (50% dilution) on the wheels which are a PIA to clean. A gentle spray down with the pressure washer and things were looking greatly improved. I used Z*PC on a couple of places on the tank were there was some sort of surface contamination. I waxed the Henna Red surfaces with CG 5050 and that brought the paint to life and showed a superior gloss! I was pleased. I’ve tried this wax on the silver and white cars and was under-whelmed. This is a wax looking for a home on a dark or dramatic color.

I cleaned a very dirty/dusty engine compartment with P21S TAW (diluted 50%) and had no trouble revealing a sparkling fresh engine! I rinsed (gently) with the power washer -- it was effortless.

I continue to experiment with the CD-2 Engine Detailer. My comfort level is certainly growing. I like the appearance. I leave the product for about 24 hours and follow up with a light wipe with a MF towel to unify the appearance and blot up any pooled excess. It does a nice job for an aerosol product.

On this car I’ve sprayed CD-2 on the main plastic engine cover, oil filter housing cap and the oil fill cap. Everything else is au natural.

I’ve used the product more extensively here spraying most of the larger plastic coverings under the hood. I’ve dressed up a few of the rubber hoses with the FK1 protectant.

Bike looks great! :wow:

I started to clean mine up yesterday after I flushed the coolant. I am going to try and polish it tonight.

Sure wish there was a way to clean that silver intake manifold on the 606 above. I wonder how steam would do. Assuming the top pic is the wagon, looks good!

Thanks ;)

I wish I had attacked the manifold when I had it off a few months ago. I did a test spot on it (slightly visible in the foto) and it really brightened the surface and did have some cleaning effect. I am very reluctant to clean it in place since I'd need to rinse the surface afterwards and am completely uncomfortable with the residue washing downwards on electrics and other areas that are likely to corrode.

The block on the V6 Benz looks like crap. It's completely speckled from age and I suspect winter chems...don't know what to do with that. Prolly one of those deals where it's best to leave it alone... :nixweiss

Paint looks great on the bike.

Thanks. I was really pleased with the way it turned out. I probably should have cleaned off all previous wax but was being kind of lazy. That's a single stage paint w/o clear and it's not very thick in places.

Thanks, now I am reluctant to ride it again...I don't get motivated often enough to take care of it...too many other obligations which always seem to get priority.

Tom for the record that manifold was dirty when I got it :) I tried cleaning it when it was off for the gp change, but normal degreaser like grease lightning/purple power and even biodiesel did nothing for the stained top of the manifold. I didn't push past that point because I didn't have any stronger chemicals to try and at the time hadn't yet become 'enlightened' (or cursed, depending on how you look at it) with an autopian perspective on car detailing/maintenance ;)

The bike DOES look great. Interesting your findings with 5050 though, I was just reading the other day someone's post saying they didn't like 5050 on black but thought it was UNREAL on silver...funny how ppl have diff experiences. So far 5050 has been the best look I've seen yet on my black truck. Then again I've yet to see anything that wows me on white or silver paint...neither of those colors really allow for wowwing IMO.

No need for any apologies... (uncoated) aluminum looks like crap after awhile.

I put some of the 5050 on the lowest portion of the tank (below the red paint) and was able to brighten up that surface a bit. In fact, I've never been able to do much with the black band in the past...it always had sort of a dull, unkempt appearance. Same with the engine crash bars and the grab handle, both repsonded nicely to the 5050 :xyxthumbs
