Weekend Detail of In-Laws Ranger

Rob Tomlin

Lotus Exige S
I really owed my father in law a favor, as he helped me build a dedicated Home Theater. So, I told him to drop of his Ranger and I would detail it for him.

The paint wasn't in horrible condition, I knew it had potential. A nice dark green metallic. But it definitely had some fairly significant swirls in it that needed to be removed. There were also a fair number of scratches and stains in the paint.

Basic steps were:

Wash

Clay entire vehicle

Wash

Poorboys SSR2.5 with Yellow Cutting pad

Klasse AIO with Polishing Pad

4 Star UPP (by hand)

The first two pics show the difference before and after in the hood. The first picture shows a lack of depth, and the metallic is barely noticeable in the hood:

This picture shows more depth, and removal of the swirls lets you see the metallic better:

Here is a pic that really shows how bad the swirls were:

Here is the hood from a similar angle after completion. Unfortunately the sun wasn't in the same place, but I tried to get a similar angle. Swirls? We don't need no Stinkin' Swirls!

Before and After Tire and Rim shots:

And a couple of final "After" shots:

This was my first time using UPP, and I must say that I am sold. I am a long time (7 years) Zaino user. The UPP was so much easier to apply and remove than Zaino. And the slickness was amazing! My in laws couldn't get over how good it looked and how smooth it was.

I spent a good 9 or 10 hours on this, but it turned out great. I also did the interior but I won't bother with pics here. I used the method described by GSRStilez using Oxyclean, and it worked extremely well.

My back is killing me, but the results were worth it.

:)

It looks great. Awesome work. You made a huge transformation in that paint.

I dont think you mentioned it.. but what did you use on the tires? They look really good too.

Thanks for the comments. I used EO's Wet Tire Shine on the tires. Unlike many others, I still prefer that wet look on my tires! :xyxthumbs

Very nice detail. Looks like a new pait job, they must be impressed. I thought AIO would be to mild of a polish to follow up after SSR2.5 with cutting pad. Obviously I was wrong because that looks great.

I was a bit surprised myself.

The SSR2.5 didn't leave hardly any noticeable marring or hazing. I had planned on using SSR1, but since it looked good after SSR2.5, I just went with the AIO and it came out great.
