Well, this past Friday I got around to doing my neighbor's daughter's 2002 green metallic accord. i had detailed his lexus, posted here and he was so happy with that detail that he asked me to detail his daughter's Accord.
Well, the Accord was like the Lexus, I don't think it's ever been waxed, only taken to the car wash. I pretty much followed the same process as I did with the Lexus:
1. Washed with NXT Car Wash.
2. Clayed the horizontal surfaces while washing. The clay picked up a lot of dirt, just like the Lexus.
3. Eagle One A2Z Wheel Cleaner on the wheels, twice. The wheels were covered with brake dust, and I had a hard time removing all of it.
4. Polished with Poorboy's SSR 2.5 and a cutting pad. Man I love this polish. If I work it just right, I can usually go straight to my LSP.
5. Applied Klasse AIO to provide some protection and to allow the metallics to shine. It went on to all non-porous surfaces: paint, windows, headlights, brake lights.
6. Applied 4 Star UPP. I let it sit while I cleaned the interior.
7. Vacuumed the interior, and lightly cleaned the mats and carpet. I just sprayed some Woolite mix on the mats and carpet, scrubbed them a bit, and then wiped them dry. I didn't totally clean them as I was pressed for time and had to finish by the next morning.
8. Removed the UPP with a MF towel from Autogeek. Pretty nice towel.
9. Tried to cleaning the brake dust that was on the wheels. I tried everything I could think of: AIO, APC, this Orange Citrus Cleaner, and even carb cleaner!
But I wasn't successful. I think where the brake dust was made it hard to scrub off.
10. Applied AIO to the wheels to provide some protection and to make the aluminum shine.
11. Applied NXT Protectant to the tires with an Eagle One tire applicator.
12. The following morning I applied another coat of UPP. It was only like 4 hours later, so I hope it didn't mess with the first coat.
Considering the amount of time I spent (about 6 hours) I was quite happy with my detail. I think if I had more time, like a whole weekend or something, I would've taken more time to try to remove or at reduce some of the deeper scratches and swirls. And maybe try attacking the wheels harder too.
But I love this metallic green, it's really nice cleaned up. And UPP is also nice, very slick, and gives a nice look on metallic paints. My neighbor was happy again. Again he commented on how it looked like a new car.
He even mentioned how he might want to hire me to take care of his cars, and asked what kind of car he should get if he were to replace his Lexus. I couldn't think of anything (it was 7 in the morning!) but mentioned if he gets black, I'd be willing to take care of it.
And I didn't forget to tell him about his tires this time.
Anyways, on to the pictures. Enjoy! :wavey
