Hey all!,

I started my business roughly 4.5yrs ago and have constantly been struggling to get the clientele that matches the quality of my work. I currently have a facebook site, and have driven business all this time by pure word-of-mouth. Its just not cutting it anymore

Finally this morning, I had an epiphany... I DON'T HAVE A WEBSITE. I have spent the last few hours searching website design. i.e: GoDaddy, wix.com, Homestead... and i am wondering what would be the best route to pursue in creating a website. there is a lot of options out there including hiring someone who is a professional at creating websites. what do you recommend?

Thank you in advanced for the advice

I'm probably going to go with GoDaddy. I really think their prices are fair and their designs are nice. Up to you though, that is what I'm probably going to go with.

Look up a local web designer in your area and have them design you a website. They should handle everything from your website hosting, the design and SEO.

A website is one of the most important aspects of a business, you want to get it right.

I went with Go-Daddy about 6 years back. Inexpensive way to go. Even though I don't bother with my web site as much as I should. Its really just for quick information. It states an average price, but I do a separate estimate for every car I do. Naturally, if the car is dusted with something like bridge paint , it would cost more to do the job. As far as a website producing big retail business.....don't expect any miracles. My web sight does a very important thing....it keeps me near the top of all searches. For example if you search: "Auto polishing expert" I usually come up first. So the web sight does have some significance. Since my business inception back in 1969, marketing has been a most difficult task to tame. The economy has everything to do with it and we have guys doing cars here for 39.00 dollars. That is a whole separate thread. GOOD LUCK!!!

Go-Daddy offers a build it yourself option. I hear its great. I may try it. But I like my Winters off. At 59 you will want yours off too!!! I am done chasing my tail. I did some great numbers this year. You will too after 39 years putting out great work. That is the entire key. Good work is paramount in the recon business as well as basic clean-up. We have quite a few car washes that create job security for me. It keeps me busy in the way of correction.....if you know what I mean.

those 39 dollar guys are not your competition and you shouldnt be targeting them anyway if you are higher end.  Do you think that someone who does ferraris and lambos all day for 1000+ deals with the 100 details at all?  Its counter productive for that higher end detailer to take on the $100 job as he can spend those 2-3 hours marketing to a higher end clientele and book more $1000 jobs, stay in contact with the $300+ maintenance clients, etc.

SEO and web design has a HUGE role in generating more business, along with word of mouth!

My suggestion, get someone who KNOWS marketing and have them market your business while you grow it, and then hire out to do the jobs you cant get to once you are slammed busy.  either pay a monthly fee, or do a 10% kickback (works out in your favor if they dont do their job, works out in their favor AND yours because they will strive to push your name to earn more and more every month, hence you make more)

Then once you are satisfied with the influx of business, stop paying for marketing and maintain it yourself with email blasts and constant contact, reminders, etc.

If you pay someone for SEO make sure they are not doing black hat SEO. Black hat is ok while it works but when Google gets wind of the practices, they will nix your site and you'll be way behind where you'd be if the SEO was done within their guidelines.

Learn about SEO then hunt for someone to take care of it. Then you'll be better versed in understanding if they are providing a real value to you or not.

Wordpress is awesome and extremely powerful. Just realize when you pay someone to do all the work its the many hours of optimizing/setup that you might learn to do.
