website building

I am finding that the more links I can put on my site, the more the search engines hit.

For example, I used to link to "services", but in a few weeks I will have links to each possible service that will then go to the service page.

Also, do yourself a favor. Find what sites come up first in your area- I did this and found that sbautodetail and santabarbarautodetail came up first..I was about 4 and 5.

I started thinking.. "Could I get something close?" Yes! I registered.. santabarbaraautodetailing- a bit surprised that they hadn't registered that url.

I am going to have that point to my site, but suspect that when someone googles santa barbara auto detailing, it's going to go first or 2nd.

Blogs are big! I see my blog entries getting hits..how many of you have blogs?

In short-- really think about what terms you use when posting information on your site. Think like the customer, not a detailer.

I had more calls this week than ever in one week and I think it's because I changed a lot of content on my site.

If you have any other hits or tricks, please share.

Google likes large sites that are updated frequently.

It's a good strategy to make individual pages for your services, thus enlarging your site.

And Google loves blogs. It keeps track of when your site's last updates were, and blogging is an easy way to add content to your site. You don't need to sell your services in your blog...just observations about car care and do-it-yourself tips are good subjects.

If you're a new business, try to get a "keyword" domain like santabarbaraautodetailing.com, as they tend to rank well. But if you are established, you can lose your Google ranking by switching domains.

Wondering what customers are searching for in your area? Use the Google keyword tool:

Be careful what you are using as keywords because you could get into trouble. I found that a large detail supplier was using "Danase" as a keyword even though they never sold anything from me. They where doing this in their Yahoo ads. I reported it to Yahoo and it was gone within a day. Had it not of been removed I would of taken legal action.

Blogs are really only good if you are updating them often. AND they are better if they are tied to your domain name like, yourdomain.com/blog

It used to be the more links you had and more importantly the more sites linking back to you, the better. But search engines are getting away from using that to determine if sire is popular. Too many people where just linking back and forth. The most important thing is content.

Some of the big tips of website building are:

Content is king. The closer you can get your website name, keywords, and body content to relevant searches you get much higher ratings.

Make use of header <h1> <h2> etc tags. They once again add relevance.

Don't overdo it. Don't throw keywords into the page just because, especially when you keyword flood a page. Google and other search engines are intelligent enough to flag them and if there is some 'tomfoolery' going on your site can get sandboxed.

Press releases and other "quality" links. Yes the more referrers you get you can raise up in rankings. But again be careful, don't link share just because because, you can end up being sandboxed.

Get listed i the Google Business and other business directories. These are good quality referrers.

Links to your site, especially nonreciprocal links from other car care and detailing related sites, are very important for ranking.
