Web Hosting

For all of the Detailer's that have a website for your business . . . . go a few questions for you regarding hosting:

Where are you folks hosting?

How much space are you getting?

How many e-mail address's?

How much are you paying?

I have been waiting a while to get a site together and for this person to do my site but i'm at the point of just transferring my free site to a host and just hosting it so people can have something to look at and get a feel for my business.

Any suggestions and comments are welcome and appreciated.

My forums and my old detailing site are on my friends server. I think he charges $100 a year. It's good because he's always reachable and the sites are never down.

wow. Thanks guys for the useful information. It amazes me how many people use so many different places.

My first thought was to initially go with GoDaddy but there are just so many places to host now days.

go daddy for sure

i recently switched to my web designer instead...same 60/year as go daddy, but it will never go down and he is a much faster phone call/text away

I think that's the thing about picking a web host today. Sure, you can pay a company (GoDaddy) $60 per month that has a 24h tech support and some disconnected 'user-friendly' back end... or you can pay Bob, the computer geek down the street that has a web server in his basement the same price and get extremely personal service and tech support.

I had screwed something up once when I was messing with my web page trying to set up a newsletter mailing list, so I called my host and explained to him what I was trying to do and he personally went into my site and fixed it within 2 hours.

For my own freelance web design stuff, I use godaddy. They are priced right and reliable enough.

Also Autopia is hosted on a godaddy server and it never goes down. :)

You do get better service with a mom and pop webhost BUT how many of them have redundant hardware and links? If you need the hand holding, they might be a good fit, but lets not be delusional about their uptimes and connectivity. Most of the big guys now use host virtualization that can have you moved off bad hardware to good hardware without ANY downtime.

thanks for the great suggestions guys. Everyone has different opinions which will make it difficult to decide but i appreciate all the very useful information
