Weatherstripping coming off on the Stang

Didn't really have a forum that fit the bill but its an eyesore:o

I noticed while waxing with some TS the other day the weatherstripping between my back glass on the bottom between the trunk lid has come off in the center and is sagging. Do I need a special type of glue to adhere this again, what can I use to remove the old glue/residue? Should I take the whole piece off or just adjust the middle section?

Please be specific on what type of glue and places to find and procedure;)

Thanks for any help!:xyxthumbs

3m makes an adhesive which can be found at a good auto parts supply store or a paint and body supply store:

3m Super Weatherstrip Adhesive PN 051135-08011.

I'm unsure though if it's best to take the whole piece off, apply the adhesive and press and hold it in place or just peel it back gradually, add it ,then press.

Good ol' 3m General Adhesive Cleaner ought to clean the old stuff.

Please provide a photo if you can. I'm trying to picture this and normally I don't see a need for adhesive in such a spot unless the stripping split. Seems strange it's sagging though.

if your stang is still under warranty, see if the ford dealer would fix it for you. just be sure they don't give you a complimentary wash. ;)

Thanks for the quick reply Bill and the part #'s are speicifc;). Don;t have a pic digital camera and computer aren't gettin' along.

Its not sagging by much but you can a thin line of the old adhesive 1/4 to a 1/2" below the rubber molding that fits over the bottom of the back glasee. I can push it back into place but it slides right back down.

It is under warrany but hate going to dealerships and its not a major thing, noting that I couldn't fix. Plus I can see it now some guy all pressed up against my rear fender, keychain ring, pocket knife, belt or some other thing scratching it while trying ot fix it. Oh the horror:eek:.....:)

Yeah, for sure, I know exactly how you feel.

Well, if you can see existing adhesive, that's good in that you won't be gluing something that shouldn't be glued.

If you get the adhesive and the cleaner you should be in good shape.

On my older car I had a part of the surface of a weatherstrip start to tear. This stuff works :up

I'm assuming that grainy stuff is old adhesive:p . But seriously it has to be adhered cause it fits over the the bottom of the rear glass and is 2" wide and the back thin flap of it funnels into the the trunk outer edge and down under my tailights and onto my bumper and causing water spots after a quick jaunt down the highway, a sore subject for me.................:D

Thanks Bill what do those products nornally run 3-5 bucks?

I'll have to check the trunk weatherstrip on my 2000 Mustang GT. The problem you described about the water leading to the rear bumper sounds like what I've had from day 1... Plus my bumper gets extremely dusty real fast.

The same thing happened on my '03 Cobra. I put a touch of black RTV in the groove and slid it back in place.

That part is dangerously close to paint...I'd fix it myself as above before taking it to the dealer.
