WB vs. OPC on wheels

You guys think Meguiar's Wheel Brightener would do a markedly better job on wheels than Optimum Power Clean? Not just subjectively better, but obviously better? I just used Optimum Power Clean on some filthy dirty, for years, wheels. Got just about everything, except for little bits on the lip and in deeper crevices. But, WB is specifically for wheels. How much better a job, if any, would it do?

Also, in another thread, Legacy99 posted a link to this page. Note the 2 videos on it: Click. Anybody think the product could really works that good? Just seems too good to be true after what I went through working on my wheels this weekend. Would have saved me at least four hours of work for what's a $7 bottle of chemicals.

wheel brightener works very well . . . . . . .i have never personally used Optimum Power Clean but have heard good things about it.

A member on another forum did a comparison:

Sonax Wheel Cleaner vs Brown Royal

and surprised to hear he gave the advantage to Brown Royal . . . . . . it appears that he liked the product and said that it worked very well. I haven't heard from the Flashwax company in a very long time. I use to know some people who once did detail work and used flash wax as you could apply it to everything including glass and then BAM! They have a new product out which is the Brown Royal.

I'm not a fan of stuff that comes in small portions like those 16oz bottles but that is just me. I would rather buy in bulk but give it a try or give them both a try you won't be disappointed.

As others have said, they are different products. Having said that I have both OPC and WB. I love using both.

I use a 4:1 dilution of OPC for regular maintenance washes of the wheels on my BMW. OPC works really well for regular washes but it is not as strong as WB. Now WB is really nasty stuff which is why I do not use it that often. WB gets out most very heavy break dust deposits.

Yeah, but you can use OPC on wheels. That's what I'm asking, does a general purpose product like OPC do as good of a job as a dedicated cleaner like WB?

I like general purpose products simply because you don't have to buy as much different stuff. Fewer tools to get the same job done. But, if a specific tool (like WB) can get the job done so much better, sometimes it's worth it to get the specific tool.

Thanks, this is what I was interested in hearing about. But, the thing is, I just used OPC on my wheels this weekend. They haven't been clean in years. And, OPC got out "most" of the brake dust deposits too. But, I was using it 0:1. Well, I also took the wheel off the car, clayed, and AIO'd with Duragloss #501. Maybe I wouldn't have had to do that with the WB?

But, from the sound of the description above, think I'm going to stick with OPC for now.

Other opinions appreciated.

I use the same method of cleaning wheels with WB and OPC. WB leaves the wheels significantly cleaner - because it is a specifically designed for removal of brake dust. Having said that, WB is NASTY stuff. I would not recommend using it routinely. I use the BMW branded wheel cleaner or OPC and then once in a while WB. I am experiment around with sealants - I have wheel sealant and that helps a bit but I still need to find the "sweet" spot when it comes to cleaning wheels. On my car, if I do not clean the wheels at least every two weeks I have to do some major scrubbing.

I use a product like WB - rebadge stuff sold locally by a Megs Distributor, anyway - I dilute it 4:1 and use it only on really nasty wheels. Start by rinsing - power washer helps!, then spray WB, brush, rinse, spray an APC that's on the alcaline side to neutralize the WB, wash, rinse and dry. Polish as needed with a Mothers Power ball and seal. After that, you can keep your wheels clean with just car wash soap.
